Positive: Grey Goose Cottage is a self-catering holiday let; it is comfortable, tastefully decorated and very well equipped. Its French windows command a beautiful view of a small loch and the situation is admirable: paths and small, quiet lanes lead away from the front door. The owners, who live on site in an independent house, are welcoming and friendly and allow guests to get on with their own holiday at their own pace. Stornoway is about twenty minutes away by car and Tarbert, on Harris, about an hour. The rooms at the cottage are well arranged; the washing machine is quietly tucked away and the outside garden room dries clothes quickly. We loved the place; it was an excellent base to return to at the end of the day. Lewis itself is full of quiet beauty and wilderness. We bought fresh fish beside the fish market at Stornoway and we visited mountains, beaches and a local football match. (2-0 home win.) There were harriers, merlins and eagles in the skies. We all wished we could have stayed longer.

Positive: We had a wonderful stay at the cottage on Lewis Island! The communication with the host was great. The view from the cottage was absolutely stunning. We loved watching the sheep and grey geese roam the fields. We were lucky with the weather and got to enjoy a barbecue outside, which made the experience even more special. The lovely welcome basket was a thoughtful touch and made us feel instantly at home. We highly recommend this place for a peaceful and memorable getaway.

Negative: A few more accessories for the barbecue would be handy, but that’s really just a minor detail.

Positive: Peaceful. Clean, well decorated.

Negative: No toilet upstairs. Owner controls heating. House sometimes cold and the renter has to ask the owner to improve it. I think for a cost of over a thousand pounds a week, could have been trusted with heating controls. The house sleeps 5 but I don't think 5 people would have comfortable seating in the lounge. Only 2 of us so Ok.

Summary: Generally good, but quite expensive given the negatives I mentioned.
