Positive: Loved everything about this stay. We are so lucky to have got to stay in this wonderful lodge, it had everything you could need, and the most amazing views! So peaceful! The hosts made us feel so welcome and that nothing was too much trouble. I’m already looking through the diary so we can come back!
Negative: Having to leave 😞
Summary: An absolute gem!! 💎 x x

Positive: We had a wonderful stay at the lodge. It was in a peaceful location and the balcony was ideal for looking at the views as well as the starry skies. We got very lucky with having two clear nights in a row for stargazing. Merle was very welcoming and we loved the surprise homemade lemon cake! There was a plethora of information relating to the surrounding areas and activities to do etc. Lodge was very cosy and tidy with a variety of kitchen appliances and utensils to ensure a good self-catering stay.
Negative: I agree with the other review regarding perhaps a fan at night as it did get very warm and stuffy. The wifi was pretty slow (unsurprisingly given the location) although we were not too fussed as we did come to the lodge with a mindset to 'switch off' from the outside world.
Summary: Highly recommend as a base to explore the forest park

Positive: I liked the decor of the lodge. The lodge is away from the main property and is surrounded by trees and bushes so you have plenty of privacy with a beautiful view. The drive to and from the Lodge to all of our activities was a sight in itself and the cattle near the roads were a cute and entertaining sight for us coming from Glasgow. The kitchen/bathroom in the lodge is more than adequate. There were plenty of utensils. Thanks to the information provided by the hosts, we were able to explore New Galloway and their cosy art/community hub the Catstrand. We had a particularly warm day and we travelled to Ayr beach. We also managed to explore the Galloway forest park which had varying levels of difficulties for trails and sights to see along the way. I highly recommend the restaurants ‘Tempura’ near Morrisons in Ayr if you’re passing on the way down (their prawn tempura was fresh and a generous portion for the small) and Picollo Italia in Moniaive—their fish stew was also brilliant and the service was wonderful. The WiFi was fast enough for us to stream movies and TV shows at night with ease.
Negative: The lodge was quite warm and uncomfortable at night, a fan would be a welcome addition. There is also the issue of midges, maybe midge screens on the windows for night time would help? This issue was mostly dealt with by using midge spray but we still woke up with a few bites. We were disappointed by the closure of raiders road forest drive nearby New Galloway, it wasn’t clearly signposted at the nearest entrance (nothing to do with the hosts of course but helpful for anyone looking for day activities!)
Summary: Beautiful stay in the countryside, access to brilliant walks and only an hour from Ayr

Positive: Wonderful and cosy cabin with fantastic views. It had all we need for a self-catering stay, plus more. The log burner was so lovely of a cold evening post exploring the lochs. Lovely garden area. We sat and watching the stars on a clear evening, there's not a light to be seen anywhere.
Negative: Very little! The place is wonderful! Its a tad noisy on the roof when it's raining, but it isn't any worse than being in a caravan.

Positive: Absolutely without a doubt recommend this peaceful getaway. Everything is at an exemplary standard, honestly there wasn't a single thing to NOT like about our stay at Glenkens Lodge. An eco friendly rustic inspired Lodge that was clearly well thought through and built equally so. Come rain or shine the views overlooking towards the Water of Ken were magnificent with a bench available at the top of the hill a short walk up from the lodge itself providing a glorious uninterrupted view for miles around, the variety of Birdlife on your doorstep was also a delight to watch from the balcony. A plethora of information about local places to visit, hike or dine at were on hand so even if you visit with only a few plans of your own there's no end of local knowledge to make use of! A special thanks to the warm and welcoming host Merle!
Summary: Heavenly getaway Lodge

Positive: Me and my partner visited Glenken’s cabin during the middle of June for my birthday, and we were so happy with the details and obvious hard work the owners had put into the cabin. On arrival, we stopped by the hosts’ home to pick up our keys, and then parked in our private entrance. There was an abundance of kitchen utensils and space for us to set up camp for the week, and with brochures in the cupboard, it was easy to use the appliances. Unfortunately, we were unable to use the gorgeous wood burner inside the cabin as we visited during one of the first heatwaves of the year! Our favourite part of the holiday was the peaceful mornings, afternoons, and evenings, sat on the secluded porch with a glass of wine, a great book and an even better view. The hosts were attentive, and responded almost instantly when we had any queries. I would recommend this cabin and the hosts highly to anyone wanting to visit the South of Scotland, with plenty of activities and picturesque villages around the area. Thank you so much for having us, and we hope to visit again soon, in cooler weather so we can use the wood burner!
Negative: Since the weather was beautiful and the temperature was reaching 30 degrees, the cabin did get very warm. The hosts weren’t expecting such warm weather so quickly, so unfortunately there wasn’t a fan to help cool us down. However, they kindly came over offering us some products to avoid being bitten by bugs during the night while we had the windows open.
Summary: An absolute gem of a cabin with a mesmerising view!
