Positive: Our stay at Five Peaks Jigokudani was the most relaxing and memorable accommodation during our entire trip to Japan. Our stay in October was unusually warm for this time of year and we came specifically to see the Snow Monkeys--but no monkeys in sight for the first two days. We got lucky on our last day, with a little snow and close to a hundred monkeys! A moment we will never forget. The park itself is very close to Five Peaks, walking distance from the front door to the actual park is about 25-30 minutes. Walk to the bus stop is about 5 minutes. We found a cute cafe in the bus stop area and The Farmhouse for dinner, just a short walk away. The house was VERY expansive and well equipped for our entire group, with plenty of comfortable beds for everyone. Our hosts (Daniel and Chie) were communicative and went above and beyond to make us feel at home. I even thought I lost my wedding ring (later found in the bottom of a suitcase) and Chie responded right away to have the cleaning staff attempt to locate it. Bonus was having a washer AND dryer, as we'd become accustomed to hanging our clothes to dry in Japan. We also loved the tatami room and the outdoor seating area under the shaded pergola (don't miss out on relaxing at the one in the backyard, as well.) We also had a wonderful time exploring the nearby onsen town, but made the mistake of staying out too late at a fun karaoke spot and missed the last bus back up the hill. It was raining and a bit of a hike, but it made for a wonderful travel story and we burned all our calories from dinner. Just a heads up, for fellow travelers without vehicles, if you don't want to walk uphill, pay attention to the bus schedule or plan to book a taxi in advance. If you don't mind walking, it's both doable and fun to go from the town to Five Peaks, in under 25-minutes. (Just don't forget to pack an umbrella in the case of rain.) Overall, Five Peaks exceeded all expectations. We truly hope to stay again.

Positive: Great house for a large group. Kitchen well stocked. Washing machine and drier which was great for our long stay. Great location for drive to Shiga Kogen and other ski resorts close by.

Negative: Being winter the hallways etc are cold, but all rooms and common rooms have heaters with timers so very cosy

Positive: This is a very large house with space to park a car. We were there in winter and the kids loved playing in the snow around the house. It is walking distance from the Snow Monkey Park, but make sure you have the correct footwear in winter as it can get very icy and slippery. There are gas heaters in every room, which worked great. We were never cold inside the house. There is plenty of space in the kitchen, dining room, and living room. It was really nice having a tumble dryer as well as a washing machine for cleaning clothes.

Negative: There was no big teapot in the kitchen, but we made a plan with a large Tupperware jug. The gas stove took a little while to get used to, as you have to turn the knobs quickly to light the flame.

Positive: We loved staying here. A lot of space for our family of 7 (5 kids) and very comfortable. So quiet and peaceful and the home had everything you could need and more. The monkey park is very close. We'd love to stay here again one day (in winter with the snow would be amazing). Such a great place to stay
