Positive: The lodge is located in Lamin Koto, directly across the river from Janjanbureh, Getting back and forth is no trouble, locals with boats will take you any time without hassle. The national park, wildlife, archaeological sites, and plenty of trails are nearby; the lodge will arrange whatever you like, but there's no pressure at all if you want to explore on you own or make other arrangements. The staff is wonderful: Maxi handled every challenge with unflappable calm, Ibrahim and Omar cooked meals for us and took care of the property and guests, and we all became friends over the course of our stay. I've never felt safer or better looked after than at the Finfoot Lodge.

Negative: I wish we could have stayed longer.

Summary: Safe, welcoming base for exploration of central Gambia will make you feel like family

Positive: Perfect location, easy to walk there from the ferry, overlooks the river. Good trip between the islands from Wassu at a reasonable price because there were three of us.

Negative: This may be temporary but there was no wifi. This is a big deal for me as I don't have alternatives. This may be churlish, but there weren't adequate cold beers in the fridge!

Summary: I liked Finfoot, but wasn't impressed by Janjanbureh, or the lack of a bus timetable

Positive: Ibrahima the Host was very friendly, nice and helpful with everything. He made good food and made you feel welcome. Location is a small walk outside Janjanbureh behind a School and very quiet but also useful as a base for trips to the town.

Positive: This place is amazing. You can swim in the Gambia river and watch the sunset. Maxi, the host, is quick in organising (birdwatching, kajaking, etc.) and up for spontaneous trips if he has time. Even the vegetarian food is amazing that Maxi cooks himself. He also has a good sense for when to chat with you an when to give privacy. I will definitely come back!

Positive: Finfood Lodge is a very peaceful place right on the Gambia River. I spent four nights there and had a wonderful time. The hosts are very accommodating and gave me a very warm welcome and also picked me up. The small lodge is still partly under construction and with your visit you are helping to support and optimize a small family business :)

Positive: Very friendly staff, food is excellent and such good value for money. The tour to see the chimps was also brilliant and the staff organized everything.

Negative: We would have liked to walk around Janjanbureh alone. I've traveled a lot in Africa, I don't need a babysitter.

Positive: Staff were incredible, nothing is too much trouble. The location is incredible, beautiful scenery and so peaceful and calm. Food was delicious.

Negative: The Lodge is basic, don't expect luxury, this was fine for me but might not be everyone's taste.
