Come and experience luxury and raw beauty that you rarely find interwoven together in such a way. This is a home for entertaining and to enjoy with a huge kitchen, lots of counter space, big windows to take in the view. The entire second floor is the master bedroom, it is large and spacious. There is another bedroom downstairs with loads of windows. The apartment over the garage has the third bedroom. There is a cozy courtyard on the side of the house with a grill. The front patio takes in the entire mountain range. The house and guest house sit at the base of the escarpment of the Uncompahgre Plateau facing the Northern edge of the highest mountain range in the continental United States. The view is spectacular, the setting is private, cozy and comfortable. The gardens are lush and verdant; the mountains are rock and ice covered. The escarpment is dry and arid. All these varied climates come together here in Pleasant Valley at the foot of the Sneffles Range in the San Juan Mountains.
Easy driving distance to the Ouray or Orvis Hot Springs, Telluride, and shopping at the quaint town of Ridgway. Drive the Million Dollar Hwy on the way from Ouray to Silverton, or for something more exciting drive over Last Dollar Road to Telluride. Hike up the Blue Lakes trail, and if you are up for it continue on to climb Mt. Sneffles. From here it is a day's journey to Durango and/or Mesa Verde.

Summary: This beautiful home has a million dollar view of the San Jan Mountains, visible from the main entertainment room, master bed room and front deck. During our stay, we enjoyed viewing the wildlife in the area, a morning visit from a bobcat in the yard and multiple deer, as well as the serene surroundings of cattle ranches made us feel we had landed in the middle of a Norman Rockwell painting. Looking out the windows is like looking into a postcard. The custom kitchen is well-equipt with room for several cooks. The steam shower in the master bath is the epitome of luxury! The heated floors add to the overal comfort of the house. Everything was very clean and well kept. The house is conveniently located between Telluride, for world-class skiing, and Ouray, the Switzerland of the US and home to the Box Canyon Ice Park and Hot Springs. We have stayed in Ridgway before and this was the best experience to date. The only thing that could have been improved was the bedding in the library room, the futon was not as comfortable as a conventional bed. This house is a must if you are looking for a place to stay in Ridgway.

Summary: One of the most beautiful views you could ask for in an immaculate home. Owner was extremely responsive. Home is amongst ranches so you get the feel of living among the ranchers which was really cool. The futon room is workable but not ideal for sleeping but doable. Plan on two good queen beds in the main house and a third in the guest house. It was perfect for our family of five. Would do it again any time.

Summary: The house is beautiful, its a bit outside of "town" but wonderful views and very nice to relax with friends and family. The house has some confusing parts, like a very over engineered light system that didn't function in all rooms. The "TV" room lights we never could get to function, the master bedroom overhead lights never functioned. Amazing shower/tub in master, we did not use the studio/apartment but instead just had our 5th person crash on the futon in "TV" room. The big downfall was a "gas" smell which emanated from the utility area, they told us it was from a sewer pipe and to flush it. We tried, the caretaker showed up to get a vehicle from their garage and I even had her come in and smell and she acknowledged it but apparently there was nothing to be done about it. It was rough cause it was warm enough outside to not want to open the windows but definitely stinky enough in the house to be nervous about it. I know country houses come with quirks but there should be something done about that. Beautiful place, would come back again once the plumbing is remedied. :)

Summary: We had a wonderful time during our stay at the Hummingbird House. The house suited our family of 7 adults perfectly--with lots of space to spread out and bedrooms for everyone (3 couples and a solo). One of my primary criteria when searching for a rental was that it be accessible for my mother-in-law, who isn't very mobile. Hummingbird House turned out to be great, with no stairs to enter the house or the living spaces and a comfortable bedroom and bath also on the main floor. Another couple took the HUGE master suite (the entire second floor--maybe 1200 square feet?), and the family member who hadn't brought her husband had a comfortable sofa bed in the "den" on the main level. My husband and I took the (also huge) guest house suite on the second floor of the garage. We loved having windows open on all four sides of the room. Overall the house was clean and very well decorated, with big comfy sofas and good beds, etc. The kitchen is fabulous--Huge (bigger than it looks in the photos) and well appointed. We really enjoyed having the space for multiple family members to cook together. The property is beautifully landscaped with blooming flowers dispersed all throughout. The terrace faces the mountains and is a great place to just sit and ponder the majesty of Mother Nature. We saw deer, foxes, and elk and heard coyotes. The house is definitely in the country, a few miles from town and surrounded by pastures and cows. Ridgway is a cute town with good restaurants and a decent grocery store. What wasn't perfect? I thought it was a little weird that there was no fireplace or stove in the main room--only in the master suite. And overall, the house is a little bit sparely furnished. For example, there are exactly 8 plates, which meant that with 7 people in the house, we ran the dishwasher after every meal. The dining table seats 6, and there aren't any more chairs nearby to borrow (we used the stools from the breakfast bar, which was tolerable but an awkward height). There were the bare minimum of blankets, pillows and towels--everyone got one, but I would have liked *two* pillows for myself and maybe a throw to use when sitting on the patio in the evening. Oh, and the only Television in the house is in the "den", which we used as a bedroom, so...no Game of Thrones for us! Small stuff, I know, and they don't take away from our wonderful stay! Overall, I'd return in a minute and I think any member of my family would too. It's a gorgeous place.
