Positive: It's as described: a desert camp, where you can experience the desert surroundings. The food was really good -- the best we had in Oman over 10 days (including at a 3- or 4-star hotel). We happened to be the only guests on that particular day, but the hosts still prepared a full meal spread with 5 dishes, and everything was excellent. Our host was really flexible: we could pick a time for a camel ride, and were offered other activities as well. Recommendation for other travellers: please use the escort to drive into the desert. Do you really want to stop every few minutes and worry if you're on the right track? I was double-minded, but decided to get the escort (i.e., someone will come to a meeting point in the last village before the desert and you follow their vehicle to the camp), and I was *really* grateful I did. It does cost OMR 10, but it's well worth it, IMO.

Negative: The toilet attached to the tent smelled really bad and the sink in there had almost no water. I accept that it's a desert camp though, so I still rate the overall experience highly.

Positive: Amir and his family are absolute stars! The tent camp is in a great location and feels secluded like it should feel. The tents are perfect an basic at the same time. Great desert experience with great food and the friendliest family.

Positive: Smaller atmospheric camp with genuine experience hosted by a family about 20 km from the road. Tent is spacious and food is great. Hosts welcoming. I recommend!

Negative: Cold shower in the winter may be a challenge.

Positive: The location was perfect, you felt like the only place and people for miles around, it is tucked between sand dunes so you don’t get whipped by the sand when the wind blows. The tents are great with a private loo, a pair of comfy beds and extra blankets for the cold desert nights. The food is plentiful and authentic; watching our host make us fresh bread and camel meat on the fire was wonderful and the results were delicious. There’s a swing to watch the sunset from and a hammock the other side of camp for a glorious sunrise! Would 100% recommend.

Negative: There is nothing I would improve upon! You should however be aware that this is a camp in the middle of the desert so you’re not going to be getting all the mod cons and that in fact adds to the magic of the place!!

Positive: Wow, we loved our stay with Amur and his family at the Desert Heart Camp. We didn't have a 4x4, so he met us and drove us first to his village for some coffee and dates, and then we had so much fun going dune bashing. Amur arranged for us a camel ride for the sunset and it was lovely. We were the last two staying at the camp before he closed for the season but you wouldn't have known it as we were treated so well. His children are precious. We made traditional bread over the fire and dinner was absolutely delicious! The open-fire grilled camel meat was tasty! We waddled to bed full and drifted off to sleep to the wind blowing through the tent. Breakfast was great and my husband enjoyed his second coffee walking around the dunes. We then left the desert oasis to continue on our journey, taking with us some wonderful memories of our time with this sweet family. Thank you Amur!

Positive: This was a perfect experience and definitley the highlight of our trip. The hospitality of Amur was awesome. Since we did not have 4*4 WD he provided our transfer. Our tent was comfortable with private bathroom. The showers were outside. After arriving to the camp we were welcomed with fruitbasked, dates spiced with a bit cumin& sesame and Omani coffee and tea. We had a car ride on the dunes for sunset. Our driver was friendly and experienced. Before dinner, Amur made bread from the scratch on camp fire. Dinner was delicious. We had salad, traditional bread soaked in sauce, rice with chicken and camel meet skewer. If you are vegetarian they prepare your meal accordingly. His family also came to the camp and welcomed us warm heartedly. After dinner his children sung and made music and we all danced together. At night the sky is cristal clear and full with stars. You can enjoy it next to campfire. You will sleep very well since the inside of the tent is dark and there is no voice except the rooster from another camp who has a funny time feeling:) beds are comfortable and you have 2 little windows for fresh air. There is light within the tent and bathroom. For shower torch is also provided. Breakfast was very good. We had crêpe, omlet, joghurt with raisin and pomegranate. Since it was eid, goat meat and honey was served as well. Camel ride, bike ride are also available. I do recommend this place and we will definitley plan another trip with Amur for another desert trip.
