Positive: Things we liked: The house is very nice, good location in the medina with nice views from the terrace which we enjoyed. The owner who is Italian was very friendly as was the lady (house keeper), google translate came in very handy as they do not speak English. Pain au chocolate and coffee at breakfast was good. Our room was made up daily with clean towels and water. For improvement: communication before was dreadful; despite sending messages in French on booking.com and via WhatsApp these were ignored until the morning of our trip, very frustrating. Eggs at breakfast were awful, either undercooked and cold, or rubbery and cold, the breakfast is laid out early and left. We were the only guests so felt that was strange that the eggs couldn’t be cooked when we sat down for breakfast as the housekeeper was always present. Everyone it seems in Tunisia smokes cigarettes and whilst it was acceptable for the owner to smoke in his house, directly outside our room was a little uncomfortable as the smoke seeped in when we were in bed and was just awful. Likewise he made very loud telephone calls until late into the evening which we could clearly hear (one was 2 hrs long!). Bring ear plugs for this and other noises the medina makes during the night. Could be much better if little improvements made. Overall was good value for money.

Positive: Dar Andrea is a villa in the Medina that has been lovingly restored by the host. It was restored with great attention to detail and is quite beautiful. The rooftop terrace is lovely and the rooms are nicely appointed with antique furniture. The breakfast is excellent and it is a great experience to be in the heart of the Medina.

Positive: Beautiful house in an easy to reach spot of the medina. Super well maintained and sparkling clean. Room was comfortable and I did not mind the toilet was not en suite. Breakfast was good and wifi worked well. There is a friendly cat roaming around and a beautiful terrace on top. The room was excelent value for money. On top of all of this, the hostess Samia was absolutely exceptional and went above and beyond to make me feel welcome and comfortable.

Negative: No sign outside but luckily google maps pin is accurate and the house stands out. Bell didn’t work so advice to knock hard. Room was not sound insulated so until the medina quieted I could hear every step, conversation, motorbike,cat, etc that was outside.

Positive: The place oozes charm, with antique furniture in the rooms, a lovely rooftop terrace and a great basement. Breakfast was quite good and served in traditional dishes and cups.

Negative: Gettung back at night was a bit tricky: some of the doors of the medina are closed after dark!

Positive: The property is very old and has a lot of antiques for decorations which make it a very special and unique place to stay. The host was in contact with us on the day of our arrival which was nice as we needed his help to find the location.

Negative: It’s tricky to find as the location doesn’t have any signage.

Positive: It was in a lovely location in the medina and the communal areas were very nice.

Negative: The communication was awful, nobody was there the check us in and we had to wait 3 days until somebody would take our payment. The bathroom was in poor shape and there was half a toilet roll provided for 3 days and, again, nobody to ask for any more. The breakfast was poor, all made hours in advance of eating so cold coffee and breads etc covered in flies. The bed was advertised as a double but was in two very uncomfortable singles pushed together. Would not recommend.

Summary: Poor communication and very basic facilities but in a good quiet location.
