Positive: The cleanliness of the room in general & bathroom was very good (carpet excluded) and the bed was comfortable. There is an on site restaurant which is open daily & the food was good quality. Generous breakfast with lots of choice. There are indoor & outdoor pools and a spa. The setting is lovely, very scenic and it was nice to eat breakfast on the terrace. The hotel is a not for profit ethical organisation helping various groups in need.

Negative: The room was very dated and the carpet was horrible - stained and ill fitting. The food prep in the restaurant was very slow. The bar service was generally slow too.

Summary: Hotel in a very scenic grounds, room upgrade necessary.

Positive: Location is superb. Very close to the Conimbriga site, the most extensive Roman remains in Portugal. Parking at the front of the hotel. Spacious lobby and very helpful staff. Our room was spacious and clean, with all the facilities you'd expect from a high-class hotel. The indoor pool area and sauna, etc, was brilliant. Did not try the outside pools in January!! Food was very good (choice and quality) without being exceptional. The staff in all areas of the hotel were exceptionally friendly and efficient. Maybe I got a good deal, but I considered our 3 night stay to be superb value for money. We will definitely be going back.

Negative: Everything was good. Indoor pool area gets slippery.

Positive: As I was traveling with children, I felt that the fact that the hotel had an indoor and outdoor pool was very good. The breakfast, although not very varied, had several vegan and gluten-free options, which I wasn't expecting and was a pleasant surprise. There is an outdoor area with a small playground for children, which was also good. The staff member I spoke to at reception the morning I left was very friendly and helpful (24/8/2024) There is parking at the entrance The garden was well kept The outdoor pools were very clean and the furniture in the pool area was also nice and comfortable

Negative: As soon as I arrived at the hotel, I went to reception and was greeted by the least friendly person I've interacted with in years. The lady was totally cold, distant, unsympathetic, unfriendly and made us feel unwelcome and that we were being a nuisance. We asked if we could have the room for an extra hour after check-out so that our son could have a nap in the hotel (and we said we'd pay an extra fee if necessary) and she was blunt in telling us that it wasn't possible and that we'd have to leave the hotel immediately after check-out, we wouldn't even be able to stay in the bar or the pool area and we'd have to leave the hotel. Honestly, it was the first time in my life that I had heard something like this and I was shocked. The hotel is very old and in need of work, the carpets were old and stained, the telephone in the room must have been more than 20 years old and no longer worked, the bathtub had mold marks on it, the bathroom mirrors had black spots on them because they were so old. There was a strong smell of tobacco in the corridor between the rooms. The room didn't have blackout curtains, which made it difficult for those with small children to sleep. The rooms do not have a kettle. I paid €140 for a night in a twin room and found the price very excessive for this type of hotel - for this price I expected a lot more. If it hadn't been for the very friendly staff member at reception on the day I checked out, I think I would have left with a worse rating.
