Our casita is decorated in a traditional way. Mexican folkart adorns the walls as well as in nichos and shelves. It is a comfortable place to stay with furniture that conforms to comfort but in a fashion that reflects the area. Refrigerated air is available in the bedroom as well as another unit that provides comfort throughout the casita.
We scrupulously clean our casita after every renter and also block our calendar accordingly (at least a day afterwards) to provide for thorough cleaning/sanitizing. While we use primarily natural products we also use disinfecting products to ensure that we are providing as much disinfecting support as possible.
Long term renters are required to pay an extra $50.00 cleaning fee every two weeks during their stay. We can arrange a convenient time when you are out and about for the cleaning.

Our Property
Imagine listening to the ringing of the church bells and walking out your door onto the charming plaza of Old Mesilla. Shopping at the unique shops around the plaza and dining on a variety of foods which includes our famous Mexican food.
Casita Azul is a two bedroom, one bath, 900 sq. ft. getaway. It is a historic property, which is part of the block that is listed on the State and National Register of Historic Places dating back to the 1850's. The casita was once a barn and then converted into living quarters. It is an adobe with thick walls. The ceilings are the traditional latillas (small lengths of wood) and vigas (large wood beams). The entrance is adorned with large carved, old Mexican, wooden double doors which opens to a covered portal (porch). The property owners are right next door and a common yard is shared. A newly bricked patio is available for relaxing in the New Mexico sunshine. The casita also has its own porch and access to the backyard area. It has a pet door so there is a possibility of bringing a small to medium sized dog. Please contact us if you plan to bring your pet.
As you enter the casita you walk into the kitchen which has blue Mexican tile accents, and an open living area. The rear bedroom shares the office area and a twin bed. The bathroom has a bathtub and a shower. The bathroom area has a separate heater and fan. There are two very quiet heating and refrigerated cooling units to make the casita cozy all year long. There is also a very basic utility room with a washer and dryer and a place to store suitcases and travel supplies.

Summary: Once again, we loved our stay in the charming, clean, and comfortable Casita Azul. The owners have thought of everything in this tastefully appointed home. Mesilla is a gem in New Mexico, and this house is just off of the original town plaza. This is a welcome respite if traveling: The thick walls and neighborhood mean that the only outside noise you hear comes from the bells of the local church. We hope to return again.

Summary: It was not just a very comfortable home but the history of both the familiy and their role in the developing Mesilla was amazing. We learned about the history through literature and art as well as from the host themselves and through their National Trust building. The location put us right on the square so we could visit sites by foot and walk the canals through pecan orchards. In a few days we felt like we knew Mesilla well. The house was a big part of the charm.

Summary: La Casita Azul is a really nice, quiet, and comfortable place to stay, and it was our most favorite rental property we've stayed in over the years. Its location just behind the historic Mesilla plaza is ideal - visitors can walk everywhere - and the lodging itself is charming and authentically furnished. The hosts are right next door in the historic building and are attentive, kind, and welcoming. This is a gem amid the many generic hotel chains in Las Cruces.

Summary: This was probably one of our best VRBO stays yet. First and foremost was the cleanliness. The floors were white sock clean. There were lots of decorative knickknacks appropriate for the location and accommodation. They were dust free. The kitchen utensils, dishes, pots and pans were clean. The towels and bedding were fresh and not wore out. So first impressions we were off to a good start. Next, we were cooking most of our meals, nothing fancy. There were adequate pans and utensils for cooking. The appliances were clean and in good working order. Additionally, the unit was quiet and the air conditioning worked great. We also enjoyed the table and chairs on the patio outside the bedroom area. The living area furniture was comfortable and WiFi was fast and reliable. We also enjoyed the historic ambiance of the unit. The location was great. Not even a block’s walk and we were on the historic square in Mesilla. We didn’t have to worry about finding a parking spot. Casita Azul made a good base to explore the Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks National Monument, the Prehistoric Trackways National Monument, and White Sands National Park. Last, Mary Helen was quickly responded to communications and was very friendly and helpful. We would love to go back and stay at Casita Azul again sometime.

Summary: The owners did a beautiful historical renovation of the home that preserved the cultural art and style of Mesilla. The home was immaculate and the furnishings were very comfortable. The home is in a quiet neighborhood just a block from the Plaza. I enjoyed hearing the church bells ring every half hour (they dont ring during the night). My little dog enjoyed the secure backyard and walking around the village.

Summary: And Mesilla is the place to stay in southern NM! Casa Azul is steeped in the history of the town, along with a highly responsive host and sparkling clean spaces. The apartment is very well-appointed with kitchen ware, etc., and is decorated to reflect the deep heritage of the area. Also, primo location. We only wish we could have stayed longer!
