Positive: Casas do Horizonte is absolutely incredible. The house was perfectly cozy, the views were unreal (mega points for the lack of light pollution at night—stargazing in the middle of the Atlantic is something else), and our host, Ricardo, was exceptional! He was extremely responsive and really went out of his way to help ensure that we had an amazing stay—from enabling a flexible check-in to accommodate our early flights, greeting us with the best treats + wine from the island (I still dream about butter from Pico), helping us coordinate some additional transportation, and providing the greatest recommendations for things to do while we were there, we couldn't have asked for a better experience. The accommodations were impeccable and so comfortable (you've got great taste, Ricardo!), and I must say, it was one of the most well-equipped rental kitchens I've ever cooked in. Watching the sun rise and set over the ocean from the outdoor table was heavenly, and I'm certain my blood pressure dropped instantly as soon as we arrived. If you're looking to truly escape to a remote place where the entire world feels like it's your own, this is it. One thing to be aware of is that Casas do Horizonte is essentially on the opposite end of the island from the airport, about an hour away. We wanted this—a very private, remote experience—but if you stay here, you MUST must rent a car and be prepared for the distance, as well as the switchbacks and hilly driving. Also be aware of this fact if you happen to have early flights out. There's still plenty to do on that side of the island, it's just not right in the "heart" of things.

Summary: If I could, I would come back every year, I would stay for a month, I would move in forever!

Positive: Located in a intimate place, the house is a old rural building, accurately renovated, with a stunning view towards the ocean and the lush coast line of Ribeira Seca. The interior is very comfortable, well equipped and has a nice atmosphere as a holiday home. Outdoor spaces – terraces and gardens- are simply amazing and perfect for relaxing at the sunset, watching the ocean. The host is very friendly and with a genuine interest in sharing his knowledge about the island's most beautiful places. The place is also quite close to Lajes, strategic for whale watching but also for cultural events such as concerts. Happy to have spent some time here.
