Positive: Akkara Homestay has been one of the highlights of my trip to Kerala. This family home is over 200 years old and offers a glimpse into the history of Kerala. Situated on a large property on the banks of the river it is peaceful and relaxing, abounding in birdlife. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable. The meals - breakfast and dinner are authentic and tasty. There is also plenty to explore in the neighbourhood - heritage houses, churches, mosques and a very interesting seminary. I had a great Ayurvedic massage as well. The staff go out of their way to be helpful and accommodating in every way. A big thank you to KC - the owner. Ansan, Ajay and Ponnamma. I had a delightful stay and highly recommend Akkara Homestead to anyone travelling to Kottayam.

Positive: Beautiful historic building surrounded by lawns and trees right on the river bank with steps down to the water. The staff were really helpful and welcoming arranging taxis, lending us bicycles and paddling us across the river. We swam in the river. Great location to explore the area and have your own piece of the river for a few days.

Positive: Ansan made our stay so special. He was so welcoming, chatty and super friendly. The food we had was amazing! Delicious, local dishes that we all enjoyed so much. But the company from Asan, the owner and everyone else made the experience that more special. The history of the place was great to learn about. Asan also gave a great tour and showed us everything that they grown - all things they use for cooking. Couldn’t recommend it more.

Summary: Amazing hospitality, delicious home cooked food and a really peaceful place to spend a few days.

Positive: Truly a piece of heaven. Humble generosity meets earthly luxury. I had breakfast lunch and dinner, curated especially for me. Everything I tasted was delicious and healthy. They even made me my favorite dish, which was not in season, but somehow they found it and made it. Ayurvedic treatments to nourish your body, yoga to nourish your soul. The river a few steps away from you. Not to mention to be woken up everyday by beautiful bird songs. They chauffeured me everywhere, gave me a personal tour of the town. I can't believe I got to experience this ❤️

Positive: A beautiful location right by the river. Perfect for watching wildlife or relaxing with a book. I loved being shown round the garden and learning about all the trees and herbs and finding out about the family history. I was made to feel very welcome and enjoyed sampling authentic Keralan cuisine at meal times.
