Positive: High quality of onsen, outdoor onsen and lobby and building and rooms, maybe a little dated but nostalgic. Great location beautiful area for natural beauty. Ping pong, pool and table football was fun and children liked cooking their own dango.

Negative: As long as you are aware that there is no restaurant and only frozen bento is provided for meals (we brought our own meals), then no problem.

Summary: Enjoyed our stay in nostalgic onsen ryokan with fun entertainment for children.

Positive: A fun onsen spa frequented by Japanese families (less foreign tourists) with lots of entertainment for children. Well-maintained onsen, friendly staff. There are amazing restaurants in town and the beautiful Yuppo no Sato footh bath, a must-do. A good starting point to explore the mountains (less hiking since bears are out & about).

Negative: The town seems less active.
