1 Bedroom Cottage in Xanthi Region, Skopelos

Ysyhia is the Greek word for tranquillity. We chose this name for our cottage because it was the exclamation most frequently used by our builders when they took a well-earned rest during its construction. It would be wrong to describe Glossa, a traditional hillside village of some 900 souls, just over 1km away, as hectic or noise-some, but by comparison, it is. There is more traffic on the sea, 200m below the cottage, than there is on the dirt road that leads to its door and you are more likely to hear the voices of fishermen in their boats than a passing car. You are also likely to hear a dog or a cockerel, but not much else. The cottage is set in olive and almond groves and looks out across the sea towards Evvia. No other buildings nor signs of civilisation are visible. This is truly a place to unwind, relax and imagine that you are alone in the world. But, when you want to venture out to shops, beaches or tavernas, all can be found within a 3km radius. The cottage is located on a dirt road and has a steep but short concrete driveway leading up to the door. We will book an appropriate car for you locally where you will receive the best service.

Summary: Ysyhia is just the most amazing villa hosted by a great owner Matt. From the moment we arrived in Glossa Matt was there to guide us to the property. Tucked away up a track overlooking stunning views of the coast Ysyhia is a complete gem. Everything you could possibly want in a home away from home. An absolutely beatiful location with the added benefit of a pool. Many night were enjoyed in the tranquility well away from any hustle and bustle. Just the most relaxing stay. Cant recommend highly enough.

Summary: I am almost tempted to not add a review as I would like to keep this little gem to myself but that hardly seems fair. Ysyhia lived up to all of our expectations and more. On a busy day you may see a car and a moped pass the villa and occasionally see someone picking olives or knocking walnuts out of a tree. Apart from that your only company is the birds, assorted butterflies , bats etc. Matt is an excellent host. He has the balance just right, helpful but doesn’t impose. We would return in a heartbeat and plan to do so. Thank you again Matt for a lovely stay.

Summary: We had a wonderful week in this small (big enough for 2) and beautiful cottage. What a perfect view on the Mediterranean Sea. It is a very quite place and it takes a few minutes to get where the next people are. If you love that vacation couldn’t be better. Matt, the owner of the cottage, met us in Glossa and we followed him to that beautiful place. He gave us lots of information on peaceful and lonely beaches and good restaurants. We will definitely return next year.

Summary: Just returned from a week at Ysyhia. And what a fabulous week it was. The property is perfect, with a heavenly view and it’s beautifully secluded and private. The pool is perfect for cooling off and the wisteria covered veranda is lovely and shady on a hot day. Inside it’s small but perfectly formed with every mod con and lots of storage and everything thought of. Not that you will spend much time indoors, the outside is too beautiful. In the evenings we were entertained by the bats catching insects over the pool and by the bird of prey, possibly a small toed eagle, hunting over the valley. So if you after a real peaceful holiday in a beautiful spot, Ysyhia is the place for you.

Summary: This was our first visit to Greece and we wanted to spend one week of our visit experiencing a Greek island. We were extremely pleased with our choice of Ysyhia on the island of Skopelos. Skopelos was the perfect Greek island experience and Ysyhia was an exceptional and beautiful place to stay. I agree and reiterate all the other reviews about Ysyhia, Sarah and Matt. I do not think I have ever stayed anywhere that is as quiet and peaceful as Ysyhia. It is a perfect and beautiful place for a quiet and/or romantic getaway. Matt and Sarah are very friendly and helpful, but respect your privacy. They seem to have thought of everything to make your stay comfortableβ€”beach chairs, cooler bag, sun umbrellas, beach towels, sun tan lotion, etc. And the cottage has what you need for comfort, relaxation, meal preparation, etc. We explored the island and decided the beach closest to the cottage was the best. But Ysyhia with its pool, patio and view provides the best place to relax. Ysyhia can be a place for both young and old, active and passive. If you want to walk, hike, bike, paddle board, kayak, snorkel, boat, etc., Skopelos has it. We did have a car and were there the 2nd week of October just as the tourist season was ending, so we found the island and roads extra quiet. We flew from Athens to the neighbor island of Skaithos and took our rental car from Skiathos on the ferry to Skopelos. (You should have a rental car at Ysyhia but not a large one because the roads on Skopelos are narrow and winding, and the driveway to Ysyhia is even smaller. Sarah is very good with arranging the right rental car for you on Skopelos if needed.) Skiathos is the only Greek island we had to compare to Skopelos. We felt Skopelos is a much better choice if you truly want to experience a Greek island with a rustic, local atmosphere and more picturesque beaches. Skiathos was built up with large hotels and resorts and was more crowded with tourists. We loved Skopelos for its rustic and rural atmosphere compared to Skiathos. We are from the States and it is quite a jaunt for us to get back to Greece. But if we ever do we will be sure to have another visit at Ysyhia. We highly recommend Ysyhia. Thank you, Matt and Sarah, for a wonderful Greek island experience.

Summary: We booked this cottage as a get away and were not disappointed. The hosts, Sarah & Matt were attentive but not intrusive, they had catered for everything we might need during our stay and even left some home made goodies for our arrival. The views were stunning and enabled us to wind down instantly. We had a great time exploring the island both on foot and in the car. The friendliest of the locals we found to be in the small shop & bakery in Glossa and in skippers bar in opposite the port. A truly wonderful place if all you want is relaxation -

Summary: We have just returned after a two week stay at Ysyhia Cottage and I would thoroughly recommend this place. I even got emotional!!! when we arrived as it is so so beautiful. From booking until departure the owners Matt and Sarah were so caring and such lovely people. The cottage is spotlessly clean and has a large lounge, kitchen and dining area which is decorated beautifully. The cottage is equipped with everything you need and more!! even chairs to take to the beach, beach bags, cool bag and so many other things too many to mention. It again shows how caring and considerate the owners are to the needs of their guests. When you lie on the bed you have the most amazing view of the sea. The bedroom also had a nice quiet air conditioning unit. The bathroom is decorated very tastefully and again is immaculate. The Wifi is excellent and very fast. The outside has a large patio area where we sat all of the time to eat our meals as it has a view to die for. The pool is again spotless and well maintained. There is a lot of wildlife to see, we experienced the Eleanora Falcon, Hoopoe!!, Hedgehog, Bats, beautiful Moths and Butterflies on the gorgeous flowers, climbers and other plants that surround the cottage. Don't forget your binoculars if you love nature watching. The cottage is not overlooked at all, it has total privacy and such a romantic getaway you will not be disappointed. A car is a must if you wish to explore the island of Skopelos. We did eventually tear ourselves away from the cottage to explore all the beaches and we did find that the best, private, and quiet beaches were the ones that are close to the cottage. The only thing you will see are the boats on the sea, amazing scenery, wildlife, and the stars that are amazingly clear at night. Totally recommend Ysyhia Cottage and credit to the owners Matt and Sarah for making this a truly unforgettable place. Thank you both so much

Summary: This was our third visit to Skopelos and whilst we know the island is very tranquil, we were amazed at how peaceful the location of Ysyhia actually is. Although the property is only a short drive from Glossa, or lovely walk if you're up to it, it is a perfect location for those wanting to get away from it all. It is very private and secluded and not overlooked in any way. Sarah and Matt have thought of everything when equipping the property and it is very tastefully furnished, very clean and very well maintained. Sarah met us at Loutraki (port of Glossa) with our hire car and we followed her to Ysyhia via the local supermarket to stock up on a few essentials. Then Matt & Sarah showed us around and explained how everything worked. They even provided us with a mobile phone so we could contact them if we had any queries. We spent a large amount of time relaxing, reading and dipping in the lovely pool with the occasional walk through the olive groves. The views really are spectacular and breathtaking - an ever changing scene. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and left feeling very envious of Sarah & Matt and what they have lovingly created. We would very much like to return in the future.
