Positive: The location was perfect to visit Kolkata's main sites on foot or on a short bike ride. The building itself has a lot of character which I loved. The building could be updated but for me the way it is seems very authentic and there are plenty of period features, like the beautiful wide staircase that reminds you of times when Kolkata was a very grand city. The staff were all very friendly and polite, even flexible enough to prepare some boiled eggs and toast in the morning, to cater for my bland European palate. The cafe/restaurant in the building also had a great selection of western dishes cooked very well by very friendly staff. I ate there for every evening meal. The bed was comfortable which isn't a given in India from my experience and the shower was clean and had some hot water if needed. In all, the main thing is that for the location and building, I found it to be great value for money and the staff were very helpful.
