Skyros is an island whose history extends far into the mythological era where there are the first signs and instructions. Theseus, Lykomidis, Axill and Neoptolemus are persons of mythology, which are inseparably connected with the history of the island. The Neolithic period, the classical period, the Roman and subsequently the Ottoman domination to piratical invasions, all this has shaped the island, a living room with archaic roots, which still in the traditional customs and practices (website hidden) the two museums on the island, Folklore and Archaeological Museum, there are many documents and monuments of this important past. Skyros is the largest island of the Northern Sporades island complex and is characterized by a unique landscape feature. The northern part of the island is rich in dense pine forests and agricultural land in the south there is a pastoral landscape with dense shrub vegetation, in addition to goats and sheep also the unique skyrianischen Pony offers a refuge of rare beauty. Probably the most picturesque part of the island is without doubt the Chora, the capital of the island, with its, an amphitheater and arranged houses, nestled on a 179m high cliff. On the top of the rock is the old castle, from where a unique view of the large blue Aegean Sea offers. Noteworthy is the design of the castle, as it is only accessible from one side, all the other 3 sides falling steeply towards the sea, and so provided a natural fortification against enemy attacks. Next to the castle is the monastery of St. George, who is the patron saint of the island and from where, unique views for visitors offers. Of all the beaches of the island offer some very distinct aesthetic beauty. On the north side there is the beach of Atsitsa, Agalipa, which is accessible only by boat, Agios Petros, Gyrismata and Pefkos. The south side is waiting for and Kolymbada with the long beach of Kalamitsa. The crystal clear water, the clean and translucent sea bottom in connection with the beauty of the scenery entice the visitor to feel at one with the splendor of creation which spreads before him.

Summary: Great place to stay on Skyros with fantastic outdoor terracing and amazing sea views. Very quiet location about 5 to 6 minutes drive from the paved road but well worth the effort. We enjoyed swimming in the sea, the beautiful sunsets and starry nights. Costas & Viola were great hosts and very communicative throughout and provided lots of local advice.

Summary: We were totally mesmerised every single day for a month .The outlook from the shaded verandah and the amazing pool just below sent our souls drifting over Pefkos Bay and out across the blue Aegean. The historical detail in the house remains true to a culture that reaches back 4,000 years The island draws you in with its history , rugged beauty, delicious local food and welcoming people. Thank you so much Viola, Kosta & Platon for sharing your patch of paradise and for being such warm hosts Robin & Richard Cotton Australia

Summary: The property was great. The owners Costa and Violla and their son Platon were wonderful. Even meeting us at the airport on our arrival. It really was a great holiday. Sykros island was fantastic and the little town was authentic and the Greek people were always warm and friendly. I can highly recommend it to anyone who wants a quiet authentic Greek holiday.

Summary: What a beautiful place. A quiet, picturesque, get away from it all place with a stunning view of Pefkos Bay and the surrounding islands. We occupied both villas which are well equipped, clean and comfortable, with air con. The salt water swimming pool is a big plus on the hot summer days. Though most days there is a cooling breeze. Sitting out in the evening is pleasant as there seemed to be very few if any mosquitoes. A highlight for us was star gazing, seeing the Milky Way very clearly and numerous shooting stars. Skyros itself is an island that seems to have avoided the mass tourism of many Greek Islands, probably due to the fact that there are only flights via Athens and so it retains character and beauty. Thank you to Costa and Viola for being excellent villa owners. They live discreetly in the grounds and so you have to make an effort to find them. But find them you should as they are very helpful, especially for places to eat and see. One of our favourite eating places was the souvlaki cafe in Linaria harbour. Teaming with locals, get there early in the height of the season, otherwise you won't get a table. For ice cream, the shop, where they make it, behind the supermarket, outside the Hora, is the best. We look forward to going back.

Summary: We almost did not believe the Google Earth photos of the villa when we were choosing to book. Could anything be that private? Could the view be that amazing? The answer is yes. This is a gorgeous property, crafted of stone in the the traditional Skyros style. I almost don't want to say how amazing the location is lest I can never stay there again because it's always booked, but I owe it to the lovely owners, Costas and Viola. They could not have been more hospitable and caring about both us and the property. They were there when we needed them, and invisible when we wanted our privacy, which was most of the time. They also vetted guests well, so the other couple staying in the rear house were as quiet as we were, and we all felt like we had the place to ourselves. If you want loud and wild, this is not your place, and Skyros is not your island. The rocky road in takes a little courage at first, and definitely a 4WD, but we took it slow and realized it was really no big deal. We went out almost every day to explore the island, get groceries etc... It was a life I could really get used to. Thank you to Viola and Costas for building with such craft and care, and for your generous hospitality. Karen and Daniel
