I’ve travelled extensively across Tanzania for work and leisure over many years, and I rarely write reviews—but this place truly deserves one. It’s a hidden gem: peaceful, beautifully located right by the beach, and run with great care. Tucked away by a quiet stretch of beach, it’s one of those rare spots that feels both untouched and incredibly welcoming. Hali is a warm and wonderful host—thoughtful, attentive, and deeply connected with the surrounding village. Her respectful relationship with the local community makes for a truly immersive experience, far from the usual tourist trail. The beach is beautiful, calm, and often feels like your own private paradise. There’s a wide range of accommodation options—from sleeping in a breezy treehouse by the sea (you can wake up watching fishermen set out in the morning!) to fully air-conditioned rooms with all the comfort you might want. There’s no shortage of things to do: kayaking through the mangroves, snorkeling in nearby reefs, or just soaking up the quiet beauty of the coast. If you’re looking for a place that blends comfort, authenticity, and natural beauty—this is it. I’ll definitely be back.

Positive: We had a wonderful three nights here with our young child. Thank you so much. Amazing location, easy and safe beach to play on and swim at high tide. Kayaks to go out on. Incredible food and hospitality. Thank you, we loved it!

Positive: Beautifull villa, Claes and his wife has really made this a paradise. All rooms are decorated with so much care, the staf cooks heavenly ( the home baked Bread was soooo good). Cleas is so friendly swedish, we went Cayaking the mangroves, and Cleas which was really nice . The small village is a fisher village had a nice ruim of a mosque . Highly recommend is you want to be away from the crowds.

Positive: The whole area and each accommodation was arranged with tiny lovely surprises. From everywhere, you have a breathtaking view. The food was fresh and delicious. The hosts were welcoming and tried to help wherever they could. We did a kayak and snorkelling tour, and it was marvellous.

Negative: A bit far from Tanga, but maybe that was the best to calm down after our arrival from Europe.

Positive: The stay at this villa is an absolute must! It’s incredibly beautiful, the surroundings are wonderful, and it’s the perfect place to relax. The beach is right in front of the house. The hosts, Klaus and Hayley, are exceptionally kind, friendly, reliable, and very attentive. They go above and beyond to help and support you, making you feel truly special. The food is amazing, and the atmosphere is peaceful. They are genuinely lovely people, and you can really unwind here. We returned to this place after a week-long safari in northern Tanzania and a few days in Arusha. We took an 8-9 hour bus ride south just to spend a few more days at Villa Matalei. Highly recommend!!!!
