Summary: The host was super helpful and booked us into the fab vegetarian restaurant in the village. The air conditioning and bathroom were good, the bed was not very comfortable tbh but it was only one night. Beware, the map does not give the correct location in the village, we cycled aimlessly around for almost 45 minutes trying to find it.

Summary: We enjoyed our time in las Terrazas. The village is not really exactly as described online and the ecological practices are not obvious. However the villagers are easy going and many beautiful hikes are possible from the place of Maida. The nature is exceptional. Pristine tropical forests with a very rich avifaune and plant diversity. The banos of San Juan offer great swimming possibilities in a fresh river surrounded by greenery. The place of Maida was nice. It is very quiet and is great for resourcing. It can get cold at night in winter so prepare to dress up properly. Maida took very good care of us. We are grateful. There was a problem with the website Hotels.com: the offer of Villa Maida proposed wifi included and also the website allows the customers to pay additional charges to get continental breakfast: -It is important to explain that there is no internet in Las Terrazas except if you pay 500 pesos for 4 hours of internet at the Hotel Moka. -We paid additional charges to get the breakfast online while booking but this option is actually not offered by the host. Therefore we had to pay a second time on place for the breakfast. The website Hotels.com should correct the advertisement, especially that only half of the money paid for booking is earned by the host.

Summary: Villa Maida is one of only a couple of casa particulares inside Las Terrazas so is ideally suited for visitors not staying at Hotel Moka or those looking for a more authentic, local stay. As of Jan 2022, the hotel was still on the prohibited list to US visitors. Villa Maida is just a 5 minute walk to the centre of Las Terrazas and you can hike from the villa directly. The room is basic but clean. During our stay AC wasn't on but there are units in the rooms. Beds were comfortable. The hosts were extremely friendly, welcoming and helpful and provided amazing breakfasts and dinners at exceptional value. Maida speaks good English and helped with excursions and onward travel. We really enjoyed our stay here and visit to Las Terrazas - an ideal 2-day stopover on our way to Vinales.
