Positive: The host was a very welcoming, good hearted older lady who spoke no English, but was great at sign language and phoned her son who spoke English to help answer a few questions. She also gave us a plate of fresh figs from her tree. Quiet, comfortable room in a quaint village with narrow, cobbled streets and many old stone houses, although ours wasn’t. There is a coffee and tea provided at a station in the hallway for everyone to use.

Negative: Had trouble finding it, but basically you look for the orange three story square building at the top of the hill. It is a tiny village with only a minimart at the bottom of the hill that is open until six.

Summary: Good stay with warm memories.

Positive: Good location near Bachkovo Monastery in the quaint old village of Bachkovo. Nice room. Good WiFi. Friendly and helpful welcome - no English spoken by the nice old lady who greeted me, but we got by. I think the main host who speaks good English was away.

Negative: A bit difficult to find. Navigating Bachkovo village by car was difficult as the roads are very narrow, steep and cobbled and the actual road layout bears little resemblance to what is shown on Google Maps and the booking.com app. Both direct you up a road that turns out to be a staircase - see photos. Don’t attempt this in the dark! No breakfast available - though there is a good coffee machine and sweets / snacks provided.

Positive: The incredible views of the mountains! The host was wonderful and kind! The room and everything in the hotel was very clean!

Negative: My only suggestion is to put a mattress topper on the beds. Beds were fine, I just prefer a softer bed. Otherwise it was great!
