Positive: The location was insane. They organized all of our transport to and from the Homestay. They also organized multiple boat trips for us which were really lovely. The garden of the homestay was also really pretty.

Negative: It could have been a bit cleaner.

Positive: Our stay at Lan Homestay was phenomenal from start to finish. We hiked into the village from Cat Ba National Park entrance before making our way to the homestay. 4 hours total all on foot and I couldn’t recommend doing this highly enough. We booked another homestay close to Cat Ba National Park for 2 nights to leave our bags behind, which we would equally recommend - Joystay. We were greeted by Chilly and our tour guide Hai, both staff at the homestay. They are both amazing and couldn’t do enough for us. Chilly organised all of our transport across the island (including a private speed boat back to Cat Ba town) and Hai provided an exceptional service in our sunset kayaking tour (would also highly recommend), taking us out into the bay, cooking us a bbq and introducing us to bio-luminescent plankton. A truly magical experience made even better by Hai with his local knowledge. The homestay is the most beautiful I’ve stayed in Vietnam so far and I wish we’d had more days here. Between our two home stays they arranged absolutely everything for our hike across the island and transfer over to Ninh Binh. Absolutely fantastic service - very kind and welcoming, and cannot do enough for you. If I could rate 6/5 I would. Thank you Lan Homestay!! 🙏

Positive: The biggest highlight for us were the lovely hosts Hai and Chilly , they were beautiful people who were willing to help with anything you needed . It was a Beautiful location , and the Rooms made you feel at home .

Negative: Bed could of been more comfortable it was extremely firm and i think dinner should be cheaper then what it is ($150 000VN / PP each night)

Positive: If you want to experience Cat Ba area and see the forest and the Bay, this is THE place to go. This is a wonderful little gem of a homestay away from the messy town of Cat Ba. Just getting to Viet Hai Village is already a treat as you get a beautiful boat ride through the bay. You can make this ride part of the day cruise or sunset cruise that the homestay organizes so be smart , reach out to them and make each ride a memorable souvenir. You are here to see the bay after all. We went for two nights and we were on the water all three days and also hiked ! The room is very comfortable, the food is good , the setting is unbelievable. Book all your meals with them. The settings is gorgeous with gardens and little places to sit and enjoy the surroundings . We recommend that you do the activities recommended by Chilly, the manager. We booked the sunset and kayak activity on the day we arrived so they picked us up in Cat Ba town directly around 3pm : a perfect intro to the place and then you are dropped off at the hotel direct so it takes care of ride as well. Another full day on the bay is worth it also. Then if you have three hours for an inland activity, go up Navy peak and see the caves close by : you get views on the Bay and a feel for the jungle around. Please note the hike is a bit of a scramble and goes straight up for 45 min to an hour so you need good shoes and be healthy. A bike ride on the island as also a must. Chilly will communicate with you right away and do not hesitate to ask what you have in mind and he will make it happen. For the return to Cat Ba town at the end of our trip, we took the “slow” ride instead of speed boat and this was another mini cruise going through floating village and by the monkey island so we highly recommend making the “to and from” the homestay part of enjoying the bay. Please note Cat Ba town is under major construction and is not attractive at the moment. Viet Hai is 1000 times better and away from all the mess. A gem!

Positive: Stunning property, so tranquil with all of the ponds. Really feels like a special,calm place. Super helpful staff.

Negative: I found it just a bit too expensive for what you got compared to other homestays in Vietnam, especially if you add 200k for each transfer from viet hai to cat ba and 150k dinner at the homestay. The bungalows are lovely but old fashioned
