Hello we are Justin and Elena, welcome to our home! We bought this property in 2012 and have been working on it ever since. Located in Historic Westside Springfield, IL. Near downtown, Washington Park, historic sites and shopping. Close to everything without being too close to anything.
Hermit's Hideaway is located in the back of our charming(quirky), mostly renovated, 1859 house. There are mosaic tile floors and tile mosaic in the kitchen. Lots of custom touches throughout. Very quiet, cozy and secluded. Sunset views from the living room.
Gorgeous tiered koi pond off the private back deck. In spring and summer endless flowers. We do not use any poisons in the yard, and have created a large butterfly garden and every year we get more and more butterflies! Monarchs are Swallowtails are the most plentiful, but we get a wide variety. In the back yard is our chicken coop, we currently have 10 semi-free ranging chickens in the backyard. 2 cats: Zoro, Mr Z Kitty and Sir Oliver Butterscotch, the Belligerent. We also have 2 65 pound dogs; EmmaJane NaughtyPants and Link Underfoot. They are friendly in your face kind of dogs. We do our best to keep them away from guests, but they are around. This place is an opportunity to stay in a truly unique home, on an acre lot in the middle of the Historic West side. We also own a duplex on the property and have that set up as short term rentals as well. When the weather cooperates the backyard is irresistible. We put in a giant vegetable garden every year. We have pear, peach, cherry and apple trees, as well as strawberries, raspberries and blackberries growing.

Summary: We came to find Abraham Lincoln. We also found a very interesting property with fountains and many unique constructions and more history than we realized. (Ulysses Grant lived nearby.) We recommend this place.

Summary: My husband and I come to Springfield each summer for the Route 66 festival. This was our first time using VRBO and our first time staying here. WOW. Instant favorite! Everything about this place was absolutely perfect for us. I knew it would be great based on previous reviews, but it still exceeded my expectations! It's much more spacious than I had anticipated. It's so cozy and comfortable, and the decor is so well-curated and cohesive throughout the whole space! Such a vibe. We had everything we needed. The patio out back was great for relaxing. We met Justin and Elena and they are fantastic people. You can tell they put a LOT of thought and *love* into their home. We will definitely be back. Thank you so much!

Summary: Extremely easy check in process, and owners were very responsive ahead of check in. As soon as you pull in the driveway, this place has total Key West vibes, from the gorgeous lily pad and koi pond, to the free range chickens milling around. Once you walk inside the unit, it totally felt like I was in a cute Florida Keys home. It has an eclectic vibe, and vibrant colors! The bed was the most comfortable VRBO rental bed we’ve ever slept in!! We hope to rent again!

Summary: Very beautiful!! Loved all the artwork and the details of the place. The outside is stunning!! I found 15 little ducks in the place,don’t know how many more there were but being a Jeep family is was a great touch. I would stay again!!

Summary: The front yard is filled with flowers, then when you walk to the back yard there are more flowers, a koi pond, chicken coop and a sitting area. Inside was colorful and filled with beautiful decorations on the walls. The tile work in the bathroom is fun and leads to a deep bathtub for relaxing. Bed was comfortable. The only bad thing was that we only stayed one night, we will be back.
