Positive: My partner and I had the best experience staying at Unkai Lodge for six nights- Nick and Corina as well as the rest of their family were so friendly and accommodating, such nice people. Nick and Corina were always quick to reply when we were communicating with them and went above and beyond when they helped us organise our ski passes, gear hire, lifts to the slopes and dinner reservations. The lodge itself is absolutely gorgeous; there's a cozy communal space to relax in with great music playing while you unwind. Our room was very clean and spacious with super comfy beds and the most stunning view outside the window. The breakfast provided in the morning was lovely. Also, a perfect location, very close to the slopes and lots of great food places nearby. Can't recommend this place enough!! Without a doubt the best place we stayed during our Japan trip. Thank you Nick, Corina and the rest of the team for having us and making our stay in Madarao so memorable.

Positive: Great host, very helpful. Daily Drop off /pick up to the ski slope which (<5mins drive, 12 min walk). Very happy with the room - super nice shower. Very comfy/warm beds. New refurbished interior - love the turquoise/wood look. Amazing view of the Unkai (sea of cloud) in the morning in the dinning room. Cosy fireplace.

Negative: The wall of the room is not very sound proof, still it was ok as there were few guests as the end of the season.

Summary: Thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

Positive: We loved our stay at Unkai Lodge. Nick and Corina do a superb job to make our stay really relaxing. The lodge is beautiful and the photos don’t do it justice. The decor is amazing - it’s so comfy and homely after a good day skiing. The lodge is just on the outskirts but the team run you to the lift so it’s no problem. Nick amd Corina recommend some lovey places to eat. The home made breakfast is also a highlight as is the excellent coffee! Cant recommend it enough.

The rooms are exactly what you want it to be with very cleverly designed storage for your equipment, modern shower room with separate toilets and comfortable beds. The lounge room is absolutely stunning! Great music, warm lighting, wonderful people which creates just the right ambiance after a long day on the slopes. Can’t ask for a better view and coffee in the morning! From someone who lives in this country! I highly recommend this place to anyone who plans to spend their ski vacation in Madarao. ❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️

Positive: Nick and Corina were the best hosts. Nothing was too much trouble. Unkai has recently been renovated to a very high standard and it's a lovely modern and comfortable property. Beds are super cosy, shower room great (no hint of an all in one plastic bathroom unit here!) and a surprising amount of hanging space with a load of coat hangers (most places we've stayed have little to no space for hanging and storing clothing). We loved Nick and Corina and were really sad to leave as they had made us feel so welcome, arranging dinner bookings, providing car drop offs and pick ups and getting the heating sorted out in our room after we'd pressed the AI button on the control (top tip: don't press the AI setting 😂). Unkai has the most amazing views from the dining and lounge areas but also from all the bedrooms, it was just beautiful to lie in bed on a bright sunny day overlooking the snowy mountains and valley. Plenty of choice for breakfast, particularly liked the cereal, yogurts, satsumas and muffins. This place is a gem... almost didn't want to give such a great review as wanted to keep Unkai, Nick and Corina exclusively to ourselves. We will be back!! Helen and Trevor xx

Positive: The atmosphere and design of the lodge is amazing. Super clean and design of the entire place is lovely. The staff are super helpful and very friendly. They definitely went above and beyond to ensure that our stay was a comfortable and pleasant one. They provide transport services to the ski slopes, which is an added bonus!
