Positive: Nicely laid out and large. Lots of equipment in the kitchen. Nice touches like guide books, leaflets and maps. Cool wallpaper which was a huge map of the area.
Negative: Petty cost saving which didn’t create goodwill. No shampoo or body wash. At this price I was shocked. Had to shower with the anti bacterial hand wash (the bottle was a third full). One roll of toilet paper. A sign asking that toilet paper not be flushed down the toilet due to a septic tank ….toilet paper is fine in a septic tank, I had one for years. The owners just want to empty the tank less and save money. Petty cost saving which resulted in a lower scored review.

Positive: Very spacious and well equipped. We opted to cook at home on multiple occasions instead of eating out as we enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and using the well equipped kitchen was a breeze!
Negative: On the first day, we had no water due to a fault in the local area. Resolved quickly however Sykes cottages weren't that helpful.
Summary: Peaceful Lake District stay with countryside views. It was lovely waking up to the sheep every morning.

Positive: Lovely good sized cottage, it was very quiet when we were there as we were the only ones staying in the whole row. Beautiful views from the windows as the living area is upstairs. Situated in a good location for the lake District not far from Kendal. The kitchen is well equipped . Living area is very comfortable with a large TV. We stayed at No2.
Negative: The only thing we didn't like was the lack of communication with the owners. There was no personal touch. We don't expect welcome packs which is just as well because we didn't get a note or a card or anything to say welcome and enjoy your holiday. There was no guest book. It just felt so cold with no personal touch. There were a lot of things we couldn't understand and had to work out ourselves. For instance when we arrived the freezer was turned off and we couldn't find how to switch it back on. We contacted Sykes Cottages who were very helpful and even sent someone out to sort it. We did have a day when we woke up with no water whatsoever and again Sykes Cottages were very helpful. It wasn't the fault of the cottage but a burst water main up the road. We had to wait until almost 3pm before we could use the toilet , run water or have a shower which meant a wasted day stuck indoors. But even this we still never heard from the owners asking if we were ok !

Positive: Lovely , but unusual property, we arrived in the dark and were welcomed in the morning by stunning views of the country side.
Negative: We found that the pre-arrival instructions on how to find the property were lacking to say the least! Check in was 4pm onwards and in December it is dark by then..!! Middle of the county side no lights !! no directions !! and no one to contact for help !! 6pm on Christmas eve after a 3 hour drive …. such a relief when we eventually found our Christmas recluse! Fortunately that was the end of our anxiety and from there on everything was good except for slightly unpredictable heating system!
Summary: Despite initial problems we look back on the trip with fond memories.

Positive: A fabulous quirky upside down property with really great facilities. Loved the map wall, all the beautiful wood featured throughout the property & ability to park very close. The thoughtful little welcome box, cleaning supplies box (dishwasher tablets, bin bags, washing up sponge & cleaning cloth an excellent idea we have never come across before ) & mini toiletries bag were lovely touches & showed the care put into making our stay as welcoming & pleasant as possible- all much appreciated. The surroundings were lovely, beautiful flowers by the hedges & lots of birds - next time I'll bring my binoculars as we look forward to returning.
Negative: Fabulous big bed but after a long day & our old bones would have welcomed a topper or something to make it a little softer - purely personal choice & in no way detracted from our stay.
