Positive: The immediate location of the cabin in the field it is in is very tranquil and pretty and the river runs to the rear and is pleasant to hear with the windows open. We saw lots of different bird species, squirrels and a couple of stoats. The cabin is well appointed and pleasant, the towels and bed linen are laundered to a good standard. We had some great trips out to Dartmoor prison, Teignmouth, Exeter and Plymouth.

Negative: Lesson learned - do your research! If we had known the location was as remote as it is in wooded hills and valleys and not actually on the moor and only accessed through very steep single track roads that are often severely pot- holed, we would not have booked this place. I am not a nervous driver and do live in the countryside at home, but I am not used to driving on such steep roads and didn't enjoy it. Driving any distance in 2nd gear was a novelty. The snow and heavy rain on the single track lanes on a couple of days caused us to drive through sections of flood water that hid pot holes which was a bit frightening. It takes about 10 minutes to get to the nearest B road, so be prepared for that and fill up with petrol and food before you come off the A30 as there are no shops or petrol stations - the ones in Dunsford were never open when we passed throughout our week, so opening hours are sporadic it seems. There is a coop but no petrol station in Moretonhamstead, the nearest petrol station we found was Whiddon Down which has a small Morrisons and Greggs in it. The cabin shifts a little as people walk around in it, which we have not experienced in any of the log cabins we have stayed in before, although I was never worried about it, it's just disconcerting. Great place for hiking, although if you like to soak in the bath after a long walk in the rain, you may be a little disappointed as it is small (I am 5'8) though there is lots of hot water and the shower is fine.
