Resort in Par, Fowey

Set in 24 acres of beautiful landscaped grounds and woodland areas with panoramic views overlooking St. Austell Bay, Trenython Manor Resort has earned the reputation of being one of the premier locations on the Cornish Riviera for fine dining, comfortable accommodations and total relaxation. The elegant manor itself has tremendous character, featuring many exquisite Italian details, particularly in the magnificent entrance hall. The Egyptian pillars standing inside the front door originated from the Temple of Ephesus and are said to be thousands of years old. Trenython Manor is an architectural treasure, in 1872 an Italian architect commissioned by General Garibaldi, who is often called the father of the modern Italy, designed the building. Other notable objects that can still be seen today include General Wolf’s Headboard, Lord Nelson’s Sea Chest, the dining room walls with carved oak panels and some Italian marbles sent over by Garibaldi which are now in the restaurant. Tastefully renovated to the highest standards, the resort combines Italian architecture with English charm to offer an oasis of tranquility and a truly unique holiday experience. The extensive range of on-site facilities includes two restaurants, a bar, private dinning room, conference room, a fully equipped indoor swimming pool, sauna and Gym, while Spa treatment rooms offer the ultimate in relaxation and rejuvenation. The Manor is also licensed to host civil ceremony in a variety of settings; the Gott Suite, a converted chapel with beautiful stained-glass windows and a coastal scene backdrop. Or the Du Maurier Suite with wrap around windows and doors leading out onto the splendid sun terrace. A dedicated co-ordinator who will help with every last detail of the wedding day. Over 30 self-catering cottages and lodges, dotted around Trenython Manor’s natural grounds, are furnished and equipped to high standards. Each has a fully fitted kitchen and lounge area, as well as a private patio on which to sit and listen to resident birdsong or watch the ever changing skies over St Austell Bay. If you prefer, stroll along the stunning nearby beaches, or explore the unspoiled scenery and local treasures at your leisure. The Eden Project, one of the world’s most renowned biomes, is just a short drive away from the area, which makes it an ideal spot for a memorable day out.

Positive: Swimming pool, sauna and steam room. Staff were friendly
Negative: Felt a little disappointing for accommodation at this price level not to offer fresh milk or any biscuits in your room.
Summary: Ok

Positive: Staff were polite, professional and friendly. Our room (110) had a great sea view. Having to book to use the swimming pool was no problem at all. Grounds were very well kept and woodland walk was good. Location was close to Fowey, Eden Project, Mevagissey. Staff incl house keeping went that bit further for our wedding anniversary ie rose petals and heart shape concocted out of towels. Thank you to all involved. Would stay again.
Negative: No power point was easily accessible for the kettle. Had to put the kettle on the floor to use it. Not very health and safety. Could not put evening meal on our room number. Had to pay for it on a pay as you go basis. No problem, just unusual. Maintenance had to fix one of the taps which was done very quickly but i did wonder why someone had not noticed the issue sooner?
Summary: Trenython Manor

Positive: The building itself is lovely-feels very grand on arrival. The breakfast was nice a good selection of everything you would expect from a buffet menu. The spa and pool facilities were clean and pleasant. The guy who worked in the bar area was friendly and really helpful. By far the best member of staff.
Negative: Sadly, other staff members were at best informative but generally miserable; made no effort to converse in a chatty friendly way, no smiles and generally made us feel like we were a nuisance. We were hugely disappointed with the room. Positioned on the top floor with no pre-knowledge. Be aware there is no lift and with an injured shoulder, my husband had to do a lot of lugging cases and even helped another guest who was on her own . There is a window in the room but the view is a brick wall! At one point, they were working outside this window in the brick gully and could virtually see in ! I requested a fan but was told immediately there were “no more available”. Later, we did receive one which in all honesty, without the heat in that room would’ve been unbearable! There were two bottles of water provided in the fridge and two teabags, etc. Considering we had a cup of tea on arrival in our room, that left one for the morning. This is far too limiting! The spa is by appointment only (never had that before) which could be a good idea to keep numbers down but felt very restrictive having to decide in advance what time we want to go and be on an hours limit. The member of staff who lets you in when you wait outside the door was very pleasant, however. Once in the spa, three young ladies monopolised the Jacuzzi the whole time-clearly local people - who needed to speak in very loud voices. Nothing relaxing about our experience sadly. The grounds are nice. You can just about see Fowey in the distance. We knew this in advance of course but wanted to be close to the Eden Project. Bear in mind that there is nothing within close proximity. You will need a car!
Summary: Disappointing and not good value for money

Positive: The breakfast choice was very good as was the quality. The indoor pool and the leisure facilities were very good and kept very clean. Reception was very polite and responsive. The bathroom was a good level. The bed was of a good standard. The location of the property was outstanding and the grounds were very well maintained.
Negative: The dinner menu was not brilliant but still acceptable. The choice of wines by the glass was a bit limited and could do with a re-think in my opinion. Air conditioning would of made the stay more comfortable and nowdays expected in a hotel of this level.
Summary: Overall a very pleasant experience with many positives. I would consider revisiting at some point.

Positive: The whole villa was spacious and clean. Just right for my whole family. Everything we need for our stay is within pans cutleries and plates even wine glasses. There is a washing machine stove top and oven which we were able to use. We were able to book the pool and we did enjoy the facilities within. The area is secluded and quiet a car would really be needed to stay here and be able to go around Fowey. The staff in the concierge the lady which I did not get the name was very helpful as well as Richard as we check out.Staffs in the pool area was very helpful and accomodating. Breakfast was just right and we are able to order from the menu a bit pricey but I guess thats a standard for this kind of place. Overall I would highly recommend and would definitely come back!
Negative: None
Summary: A hidden Gem!
