2 Bedroom Cottage in Iznajar, Fuentes de Cesna

A renovated Cortijo, Las Rosas offers versatile accommodation (inspected, recommended and featured in the guidebook 'Alastair Sawday's Special Places to Stay in Spain').
It can be configured to suit a couple, a family or a group of friends and families, up to a maximum of 10 guests. Private courtyards, and a pool overlooking tranquil olive groves allow guests to chill and relax.
Casita Liebre (meaning Little Hare House) is reached through the original farmyard doors leading onto the private courtyard and is one of three possible cottages.
Accessed from the courtyard via french doors, the accommodation is based in the oldest part of the reformed Cortijo, with low beamed ceilings and niches retained from the original building.
There is a lounge, with large comfortable Moorish style divan sofas and a log burner for cool winter evenings. There is also satellite television. French doors provide light and access to the courtyard. An open staircase leads upstairs
A low doorway takes you into the fully equipped kitchen which also opens onto the courtyard through French doors.
There is a full sized electric oven/ hob plus a fridge with a freezer compartment - essential for cooling the local beer and wine! A good range of plates, pots, glasses etc. allow for home from home, relaxed food preparation. Basics (such as salt, pepper, oil, washing up liquid etc.) are provided as part of our service. There is a kitchen table to seat four for dining.
Upstairs there are two twin/double bedrooms, both with ensuite bathrooms, under a pitched beamed roof. Both bedrooms have comfortable twin beds (or a double, if required); a wardrobe; a small dressing table and each opens into a bathroom with walk-in shower; toilet and basin.
Outside there is a large private courtyard planted with jasmine and lavender, surrounded by traditional high white walls. You are not overlooked by the other casitas. There is outside seating for relaxing and a table for eating, with sails providing shade on our hot Andaluz summer days. A barbecue allows you to make the most of outside living.
The communal patio and pool area is shared by a maximum of 10 guests and is set on the side of the hill facing fantastic views of the valley, hills and olive groves. There are tables and chairs provided for eating, or sitting with a cool drink and watching the sun set…… There are also cushioned loungers for sun worshippers! The pool is set on the edge of the patio and has a comfortable seating ledge in the water, giving you somewhere to sit and keep cool whilst you read or just gaze at the view…..
There is an outside shower room with toilet and basin so that you do not have to return to your casita once ensconced in the sunshine.
There is also a laundry room accessed from the pool patio area, with a washing machine, wash basin, iron and ironing board for communal use.
An hour and a half from the airports of Malaga and Granada, the secluded setting of Cortijo las Rosas, amidst tranquil olive groves, gives guests a chance to chill out and relax around the pool between days out visiting historic and cultural centres within easy reach: Antequera, Alcala la Real, Cordoba, Granada, Malaga, Ronda, Seville etc...
Taste the oil produced from the renowned olives of the Subbetica; enjoy the local wines from Montilla or the Anis produced in nearby Rute; barbecue the plentiful fish and seafood available or let us organise a takeaway from nearby Molino los Justos with its traditional β€œhome cooking.” Our local town, Algarinejo, boasts the restaurant Casa Piolas which features in Jon Clarke’s β€œDining Secrets of AndalucΓa” – their Menu de DegustaciΓ³n is an experience not to be missed!
Nearby Lake Iznajar offers a beach with pedalos and kayaks for hire with a beach bar on hand for cool drinks or eating. Walkers have the freedom to explore the countryside of the Subbetica right from their doorstep - or to walk amongst the extraordinary rock formations of El Torcal. El Chorro Gorge offers the adventurous a chance to experience the spectacular Camino del Rey or to trek around our local β€œmesa” overlooking the lake, and examine the archaeological dig carried out by the University of Granada – you might have to share the view with the goatherd and his goats...
Allow Cortijo las Rosas to help you unwind, enjoy an unspoilt AndalucΓa and guide you to its historic treasures.

Summary: Lovely countryside house surrounded by an ocean of olive trees, rabbits and birds. Feeling like coming back to childhood when visiting your relatives to a small village, being hosted with care in a charming atmosphere. Great place if you practice yoga or just want to be relaxed.

Summary: We had a truly relaxing time at Cortijo Las Rosas. The casita was well furnished, comfortable and we enjoyed using the wood-burning stove during the cool spring evenings. Marylynne and Gillian are wonderful hosts and the setting is lovely. We especially enjoyed the birdsong - nightingales, cuckoo, hoopoe, serin and many more singing away!

Summary: We are a fairly active couple who have just returned from an excellent 2-week holiday staying in Casita Liebre, one of the 3 properties of Cortija Las Rosas. We spent our time cycling, walking, touring, lying by the pool, drinking the very good, local (2 euro) wine and eating –self catering in our villa and dining out at local restaurants. Throughout our stay we were made to feel very welcome by the owners, Gillian, Mary Lynne and Steve, who stay in the adjoining farmhouse and were on hand to provide help and advice whenever this was needed. Our impression from the moment we arrived until we left was that they really cared that we had a good holiday and enjoyed our stay there. Casita Liebre itself had been recently sensitively restored and had 2 large bedrooms, each with adjoining bathrooms. The garden area surrounding the 3 casitas was carefully tended and maintained. The clear work and effort involved in this had paid off, as the gardens were lovely with flowers in bloom and fruit such as figs and pomegranates starting to ripen. The pool was shared with the other 2 casitas, although for much of the time we had the area to ourselves. The villa was in a very quiet location with no roads or settlements nearby to disturb the peace. Being situated in the hills, the local climate was slightly cooler than the surrounding lower lying region, however it was still comfortably warm at 25 – 30Β°C most days (early September). This made it a more suitable climate for cycling, although the roads around the villa have some x-rated hills, not least the one coming up from Iznajar, which hit 18% in some sections. In fact there is very little β€˜flat’ cycling around, so fairly good fitness is required if you intend to hit the roads on one of Steve’s bikes. Steve is a cyclist himself and kindly took us out on a couple of local routes to show us what the area had to offer. The nearest local village was only approx. 20 minutes’ walk from the villa, but in reality a car was essential for getting around. The villa was sited about 500 metres down an unmade track, quite steep in parts and good ground clearance on the car was useful. The WiFi reception was a bit patchy, not problem for us or anyone else who may want a break from the interweb, but could be for those with teenage offspring. In summary we really enjoyed our break at Cortija las Rosas and would be happy to recommend a stay to friends and relatives.

Summary: What a nice surprise to arrive at the cortijo and be greeted like old friends by the owners, Marylynne and Gillian. We enjoyed the casita Liebre, which we shared with another couple. Everything was lovely and beautifully decorated with care; the well appointed kitchen, the comfy beds, ensuite bathrooms, cosy sitting area. We highly recommend the welcome pack, stocked with food and drink supplies to last a few days so grocery shopping is not immediately necessary. The gardens surrounding the casitas were alive with colourful flowers and shady trees. Each casita has its own private patio with outdoor eating table and chairs as well as comfy lounge chairs. And the swimming pool was so refreshing and clean with a panoramic view of the valley and olive groves. Plenty of pool toys and games for kids, young and old! Our hosts were so helpful with recommendations for day trips, shopping and restaurants. Our casita was stocked with maps, brochures and guide books of nearby Andalusian towns and sites. We did day trips to several places including Granada (Alhambra), Ronda, Antequera, and Priego de Cordoba. Malaga and the Costa del Sol are only an hour or so away by car. All in all the accommodations are top notch! Perfect for a couple's getaway or for a large party of family and/or friends to rent one or all of the casitas. We would definitely like to return and highly recommend this wonderful Andalusian oasis, with fabulous hosts who go out of their way to take care of their guests!

Summary: This is high quality accommodation where every detail has been thought out and lovingly prepared to give guests the best possible experience. We had a warm welcome from Marilynne and Gillian who both showed us around. We were surprised, in spite of poring over the details when we booked, by how spacious the accommodation is; the bedrooms each had their own massive ensuite, tiled throughout, with oodles of fluffy towels; the beds were comfortable, and the sitting room managed to be cool and cosy at the same time with all the rich cushions, rugs and Moroccan style lamp. The kitchen was ten times better than mine at home! We paid for the welcome pack, as we were arriving just before Easter and didn't want to have to rush out before everything closed for the celebrations; it was incredibly good value - it would have lasted us twice as long! The patio was shady and lush with flowers in pots; the pool had stunning views and plenty of toys to entertain us as we "winced" our way into the water - it was unheated, so chilly at that time of year, but invigorating once we were in... and there was always the view to distract you. All in all a fabulous location, warm welcome and beautifully well appointed accommodation; I can't think how it could be improved and would definitely recommend it.

Summary: Up , up , up lots of hairpin bends on the winding road with an stunning view over the lakes , and what do you find : Truly faultless cortijo's and a very warm welcome. There are endless possibilities for walking/rambling and the whole surrounding area is full of charming villages to explore .The welcome pack is a must , exactly the right ingredients to get started in the very well appointed kitchen. Bed/bathrooms very spacious and comfortable. What's not to like ? And we would definitely like to return.

Summary: If lavender, flowering geraniums, whitewashed stone walls in a valley of olives are quintessential images of rural Andalusia then the beautifully restored farmhouse of Cortijo Las Rosas will not disappoint. We stayed in the beautiful two bedroom Casa Liebre and, if it not for the desire to see other nearby parts of southern Spain, we may not have ventured too far from the courtyard, pool and petanque court! The plethora of pool related equipment and board games was of additional delight to our two children who felt most at home. The location of Cortijo Las Rosas provided for an easy 20 minute walk to the nearby village of Fuentes de Cesna or a 10 minute drive to the beautiful village of Iznajar. We were also able to enjoy easy day trips to iconic locations such as Granada, Cordoba and Ronda. The hosts Gillian and Marylynne were fabulous, from initial enquiries through to arrival instructions and a welcome pack to see us through the first couple of days. They were available for advice and directions throughout our stay and made us and our two children feel very welcome. After 10 fabulous days we left somewhat heavy of heart and perhaps just a little envious of the life they have created in this most fabulous part of the world. We highly recommend Cortijo Las Rosas as a fantastic getaway for singles, couples or families and plan to revisit ourselves. We have already referred this accommodation to friends and our travel broker.

Summary: My husband and I spent 5 nights at the Las Rosa units located atop the Iznajar hills. We loved the setting, the view, the central location to Cordoba, Ronda, Grenada and Nerja. All a day trip away. We loved the olive scent in the air, the birds, the night sky, and the quiet mountain setting. Wonderful paved roads, perfect for walking, bicycling or a daily jog. The casita was very clean, well stocked, comfortable and private. The pool and grounds are peaceful and the view is one of the best in Spain. We have thought about how great it would be to rent all three units with friends or family for a personal vacation. It is the perfect place to do a road or mountain bike vacation with bicycling friends. For the non bikers, the pool is a place where family and friends could enjoy each other, and there is a small village within walking distance, not to mention the above day trips for any interest. The hosts were helpful and attentive. They care about their guest property and work very hard to keep the property up to a five star standard. We hope some day to visit with them again. ( The casita Libre has lower ceilings down stairs if you are a tall person. The upstairs is vaulted. My husband is 6 ft. 3 inches and he did all right. If any taller, I recommend one of the other two units. However, it is a very authentic casita experience)

Summary: If you are looking for a place to relax and enjoy a truly Andalusian experience then don't miss Cortijo Las Rosas. The place is just amazing, great "casita", you can go and explore the surrounding cities of Cordoba and Granada or just stay in your "patio" and enjoy a bottle of wine with bird chirping as the only distraction. Thanks for the warm welcome of the owners and their helpful information provided. We will go back for sure!!!

Summary: We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Cortijo las Rojas. Gillian and Marylynne were wonderful hosts and made us feel very welcome. Our casita was perfect--simple and charming and with all of the amenities we needed. We loved the pool and the beautiful surroundings. All in all--a great visit. We would highly recommend it and hope to return someday!
