Positive: We were there in February arriving by tuktuk from the buzz and lights of Puerto Viejo after dark, not sure where we were in the of the jungle. Around 4 AM far off sounds emerged, repetitively, a crowing rooster, a barking dog? We got up, went out into the darkness, sat on the bed on the terrace as the jungle slowly revealed itself. The sounds, louder, louder, louder were howler monkeys. In waves the cabin was surrounded by howlers. Spectacular. The sun came up and revealed the perfect stilted home. Perfect in plan, perfect in materiality, beautifully built, even a scarf joint at its ridge beam!

Positive: The house was so peaceful. I felt like you were right in the jungle. The early morning Howler Monkeys were not peaceful but a delight to hear so close.

Positive: If calm and tranquility is what you’re looking for, then you’ve come to the right place. Keep in mind that you’re in the middle of a jungle, so do not be surprised if the howler monkeys wake you up several times at night. You’ll get used to them. We spotted more wildlife from our deck than during our guided tour in the Manzanillo reserve. It’s a no frills place, so be prepared for that.
