Positive: For the price, the accommodation is well worth it. Had it been a more expensive place then I would have expected a few things to be different but I’m more than happy & would stay here again. The pub itself is full of character & right on the harbour so it’s very picturesque; even the road view out of our window was nice & quaint with a boat opposite. The staff are all lovely, very chatty & happy to help with anything you might need. The room was comfortable with plenty of storage, a good size shower room, an absolutely massive bed, a quaint fireplace & black-out blinds that worked a treat. Breakfast was a good size with an acceptable range of products & a choice of different hot & cold items; everything was good quality, well cooked & tasty. We ate in the restaurant the night before which was lovely; the cod & chips were perfectly cooked & I can definitely recommend the cheese board to share. The pub itself serves a good choice of beverages including a couple of real ales & you can even get a hot chocolate with whipped cream if you prefer.
Negative: If I was in a high priced establishment or on a TV show where they pick fault with the most ridiculous things, then I could point out a few bits & pieces but there was nothing that was a massive issue. You have to bear in mind that this is a period property sitting between a road, a harbour & a lifeboat station so there are things that you have to accept will be part of your stay as there is no way to change them. Historic landmark properties always come with a few niggles about lay out, insulation, single glazed windows, parking, noise from other guests etc. You just have to accept that these are going to be part of your stay & it comes down to whether you would stay again, which we would. We were in room 6 which is next to the stairwell & has the entrance doors in the road below so there is a certain degree of noise to be expected as people move about; it didn’t bother me during the day & overnight it was pretty quiet from 11.30pm to 6am. There was a band on in the pub so we could hear the music, which was fine as it ended before 11pm & there was a bit of noise from the patrons leaving but that was more amusing than anything as they were a little worse for wear. You need to be aware that the day starts early as you are on the harbour so the fishermen are going out & as I am a light sleeper, it woke me but it didn’t particularly bother the other half too much. The original sash windows are single glazed & although the blinds block the light, they don’t block noise so perhaps some heavy curtains would help but I get that they are a big expense. There is some free parking around the pub but it is first come, first served, however there is plenty of fairly cheap parking further up & down the road so not a real issue. As I said, I would still stay here again so none of it was bad.
Summary: Beautiful historic property with good beer, great food, lovely staff & we would stay here again 🤘🏼

Positive: Booked a last minute stay at the Old Ship Aground. A busy cosy pub, didn't eat an evening meal there as all the tables were booked but the food looked plentiful. The pub is down in the harbour and a short walk to the main street for anything you might need. Its the start of the coastal walk and an easy walk to Blue Anchor about 4 miles. A ten minute walk to Butlins if that's your thing. Would definitely recommend and stay again.
