Positive: Good location right next to the train station

Negative: I was initially given a room on the lower ground floor which was next to an events room as well as the lifts so it was very noisy with staff coming and going. I had to contact reception to request a change to a quieter room which was actioned very promptly. Room service was not 24 hours and was only available up to 10:30pm. I was also unable to get breakfast in my room before 7:00 which I had hoped to do as I was leaving early for a meeting.

Positive: Staff were excellent and the hotel was beautiful. The pool facilities were great. The breakfast buffet was really good.

Negative: We upgraded to a junior suite and I didn't feel it was quite worth the extra money compared to the deluxe king room.

Positive: The atmosphere was beautiful. You could see there was pride is the establishment. The front line service personal had customer service in mind. Old distinguished institution Hairdryer comfortable bed coffe tea biscuits clean great water pressure. The beautiful staircase. The proximity to the train station!! However I never heard the train activity.

Negative: The old plumbing knocked about at night. The knocking appeared to occasionally cause water to leak from shower head. Appears they are aware saw areas being addressed with interior wall work.

Positive: The whole experience of the luxurious hotel so close to the station and the centre of town was amazing. The great choice for breakfast and friendly helpful staff set you up for a great day exploring York.

Positive: Room excellent, facilities also. Particularly liked the choice of casual seating areas and ability to relax. Bar comfortable and grounds well kept. A massive improvement since the Royal York days. Staff a credit to the business

Negative: Disappointed that the garden room was mainly occupied by business users a number of whom were not hotel guests and occupied tables for periods in excess of 3 or 4 hours. I witnessed an elderly couple who had difficulty finding a comfortable table because of the business groups or individuals taking those spaces despite barely ordering drinks or beverages/ snacks or food. Would be better for those people to be shown to a business centre area thus allowing hotel guests not to be distracted by business calls and conversations
