Summary: Lovely rural location within walking distance of the beach and perfect for picking up the coast path. Interesting old building with the old water wheel just visible from our bedroom window. Our double room was a good size but, accessed by a bit of a maze of passageway, it did smell a bit of damp (or dog) though, maybe the same room I saw mentioned in someone else’s review… and the mattress wasn’t particularly comfortable (could feel the springs). These were the only negatives though, the reception rooms / bar were cosy and welcoming, the large dining room was open with lots of natural light, and the food was delicious.

Summary: It was a quaint inn with an attached pub and restaurant which was very convenient. It has lots of parking and is located in a spot that make it easy to explore in different directions. We went to Port Isaac, Port William, and Tinagle while we were there. The staff was all great!

Summary: Lovely staff, charming location, great breakfast, freshly refurbished bathrooms with stellar water pressure. However, the bed was so bad that I contemplated sleeping on the ground or in my car — I literally slept better on a knackered Soviet cot. Curiously, upon investigation into why the inner springs could be seen beneath the sheets, we discovered that the mattress was actually upside down, with the pillow top facing the floor. We flipped the mattress and re-made the bed, but even then, the springs were still evident and we tossed and turned all night. Somehow, pillows were even worse; they felt like pulverised t-shirts that had been compressed into a pillow-shape. Perhaps unavoidably, thanks to the building’s age, there is no noise insulation; we heard muffled voices emanating from adjacent rooms until about midnight.
