Summary: We had such an awesome experience here at the hotel. The place was so beautiful, our room was nice and had a fireplace. The staff was very friendly. We got water bottles upon arrival and some complimentary drink vouchers. We went upstairs to put our things down and went down for a drink. Our bartender was pleasant and helpful. Everything is very close by… within walking distance. The room was very affordable. Great overall experience for me. I definitely will be staying here next time I come to San Diego.

Summary: First off, I appreciate that San Diego has preserved this historic property—it's one of the city's first hotels, dating back to the 1880s—so it was great to see it still operating as a hotel. That said, the experience didn’t quite live up to expectations. The room unfortunately felt more like a dated Motel 6 than a boutique or upscale hotel. It wasn’t terrible, but if you're hoping for a refined or luxurious stay, you may be disappointed. The gas fireplace was a nice touch, though we noticed a faint gas smell at times, which was concerning. Additionally, the shower and air ducts clearly needed a deep cleaning. The biggest letdown was the restaurant. We didn't get to try the food or use our complimentary drink tickets because of their limited hours. If you’re hoping for a nightcap after exploring the Gaslamp Quarter, you’re out of luck—they close at 10 PM. Even more surprising, they don’t open for brunch on Sundays until 1 PM. (contrary to what the AI review states). On the plus side, the staff was very friendly, there are some cool antique artifacts around the property and the hotel’s location is absolutely ideal for exploring the Gaslamp District. Overall, it was an okay stay, but I don't think I’ll be in a hurry to return.

Summary: The hotel has beautiful architecture; however, in our room two of the six light bulbs were out, the AC did not work, the bed springs were coming through the mattress pushing on our backs while we slept. We were not aware in advance of the $59 valet charge. There was not much in the way of options to self park as there was a baseball game the night we stayed; so the public parking garages in the nearby locations were full (and would have resulted in a walk of at least 1-2 blocks with our suitcases). The hotel is centrally located in the Gaslamp District which was nice to be able to walk around to the shops/bars/restaurants. It is unfortunate that the hotel is not better maintained with regard to the things I mentioned.

Summary: The staff was incredible. We were staying elsewhere but it was horrible. I booked here and asked if we could store out bags here at 9am and they actually had a room ready. The bar was fun and out waitress was very nice. The cleaning ladies were all very friendly too. This is only a block to all of the night life but is quiet at night. The rooms could use a bit of updating but overall we really enjoyed our stay.
