After long mornings exploring Kolkata’s intensity, returning to the Penthouse felt less like retreating from the city and more like remaining thoughtfully immersed within it. Positive: This really is a hidden gem and a fabulous place to stay in Calcutta. Everything exceeded our expectations. It is an oasis of calm after the craziness of Calcutta. We had a huge comfortable room with terrace and a large bathroom. Our suite and the communal areas were very tastefully decorated and the views from the dining terrace and swimming pool terrace were spectacular across to the Victoria Memorial and Howrah Bridge. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. It was also amazing value compared to other places we stayed in India.

Negative: Breakfast was OK, but the dinner and lunch menu seemed to try too hard with overly fussy western options. A more simple lunch and dinner menu with a connection to Kolkata would have been welcome
