Positive: Alternative lifestyle destination in fantastic location . Big Eucalyptus along ridge top road. Great hiking. Rare opportunity to experience such a place. Very remote. Great hosts.

Positive: The views and the natural environment are superb

Negative: I am always reluctant to write a negative review, especially when we like the people who run the accommodation, but we were convinced by previous reviews that this would be a wonderful experience and felt it was important to provide an alternative view. We did delve deeper into the reviews after we had booked and way down there were some extremely negative ones. The owners warned us that this was not 5 star accommodation, but I was still surprised at the lack of facilities. It basically relies on a comfortable bed in front of a window with a spectacular view. But everything else in the dwelling is very rudimentary. We are older people with stiff joints and backs and the first thing I realised was that there was only one very basic kitchen chair in the dwelling, no armchairs or couch, no hot water except in the outside shower. Luckily I found some chairs outside and there were a number of cushions we could use to improvise a couple of armchairs. There was also only coffee tables to eat off. In some ways it was a bit like camping. This would probably not be such an issue for younger people who are happy to sit on the floor and there are good outside areas to sit at in good weather. But the first 2 days it was raining, so we were stuck inside most of the time and got a bit of cabin fever not having the option to get in a car and find other things to do. If the weather had been good, our impression may have been better as we could have explored more. From prior reviews, we had looked forward to being able to spend our days doing long walks and exploring the area. But the hilly nature of the area meant that walking has a reasonably high level of difficulty which was also a bit challenging. All that being said, it is a beautiful area with lots of intact exquisite rain forest and provides an emersion in nature that is often difficult to experience outside of camping. The owners also picked us up from the airport and drove us back at a very reasonable price.

Summary: The environment was fabulous but we found the accommodation rudimentary.

Positive: We absolutely loved our stay at Kinabalu, we took our little dog Jessie who quickly made friends with Occy then we made a nice fire and watched the world go by. Its a pretty intense 4wd track to get here which robin obviously offers to pickup guests but I took it on myself for fun but definitely only for experienced 4wd'rs. The morning view through the window is something from a Disney movie, the free firewood and chimenea are perfect! The kitchenette was perfect for our dinners and the BBQ was great aswell. We really recharged our battery's here and we are really grateful to Robin and Jacqui for the experience. We will definitely be back!

Negative: This place is what you make of it, it had everything we needed. We didn't need much help from Jacqui and Robin but I know if we needed anything, they would be there :)

Summary: A perfect recharge, stunning views, fun 4wd track, stars by firelight and bonus waterfall bushwalk!

Positive: Such stunning views to wake up to with beautiful old style windows and the climbers and plants around it adds to the magic. We were blessed with a nice couple of sunny days so the outline of the ocean was so visible with mountains. I would suggest not missing the sunrise which was an exceptional experience to wake up to. For a getaway, this is the right place to rejuvenate and disconnect.

Negative: Doesn't have an attached shower room and the toilet is quite small. Very old furnishings but still cozy and comfortable.
