Positive: Delightful experience. We were warmly welcomed by the hosts, who went out of their way to make our stay very memorable. The temple experiences were genuine with a lot of options to choose from. The accommodation was traditional Japanese style, very clean, with a fully renovated bathroom. The food was outstanding, a real highlight. Great care was taken in everything offered. Hosts spoke excellent English. They provide this service to maintain the working temple, so it’s clear why they cared so much for us in order to benefit their community.
Negative: It’s too far to walk from the train station, but a taxi was only 1000yen and there is a local bus option if you prefer. You can hear the occasional train from the accom, but they stop for most of the night. It did not affect our stay.
Summary: Charming hosts, delicious food and unique experience.

Negative: One word of caution...it is quite near train tracks. It didnt bother us at all because we are it the trains arent too loud and the surroundings are very peaceful but if you are very noise sensitive it might not be the place for you.
Summary: A thousand year old working temple and a great opportunity to immerse yourself in a different world!

Positive: Wonderful hospitality in a lovely area in a temple. Beautifully prepared dinner and breakfast with many homemade treat added (jams, juices from local gardens, produce from local farms, even homemade soft drinks!). Also, a special opportunity (totally your choice) to participate in temple activities if you want. Room was authentically beautiful with some original treasures, and thoughtfully equipped including brand new private bath and shower. The hosts are very caring and attentive. Countryside scenery was gorgeous (morning mist in the mountains) and famous nearby sites (Amanohashidate, Ine no Funaya) accessible by about an hour’s drive. The temple itself is easily accessible by public transport.
Summary: A very relaxing and caring respite from hectic city life.
