Positive: Excellent location, good facilities. Clean and tidy . We even had a family of foxes visit us everyday from the wooded area beyond the decking.

Negative: We found the sofa very uncomfortable . And the round door handles very hard to turn, especially the bedroom door.

Positive: Excellent location. Lovely to look out over a wild garden and see nature on the doorstep (Wood pigeon, blackbirds, Great tits, Blue tits, Robins, squirrels and foxes!) Still conveniently close to the city. Lots of local places to eat/drink and shop for every day supplies. The bed was comfortable and the bath with shower was really useful. Handle for lifting the lid on WC a nice extra. Bus stop near the property for getting into York centre (if not using your car).

Negative: Not serious enough to inform Stays York on discovery but some areas of the property needed greater attention to detail in cleaning. E.g. High level dusting. The top of the cooker hood was dusty/ greasy from previous rental. A few of the kitchen utensils need replacing - Tip of kitchen knife was broken (safety issue) Red spatula looks shabby, has been burnt/ melted by previous renter and now has curled and grubby end. Maybe an all in one (filled) salt and pepper grinder could be added to the kitchen pack? As well as a couple of refuse bags to assist with leaving the accommodation rubbish free as requested in the T&Cs. Add a couple of extra towels for rental use in the bedroom closet. The lounge area is large enough to accommodate a high backed arm chair and footrest. The Chesterfield as the main seating area is not really very comfortable for taller guests.

Positive: This is an idyllic place to stay...beautifully presented, private, well equipped....wanted to move in!!! Toasty warm, comfortable, loads of natural light, space outside, parking...could go on!!!

Negative: Nothing!!! It was about a 25 minute walk into York town centre, but that didn't bother us! We got to the property later on Friday evening than expected, so didn't go into the town centre then, but plenty of pubs/bars/eateries within a short stroll.

Positive: Great location if you're driving - far enough out that you don't have to fight the central traffic, but a bus stop right outside with regular service into the centre. Attractive property, and the balcony over the wildlife garden is a real plus. (I saw a fox cub playing while I sat outside for breakfast, which was pretty cool)

Negative: Wouldn't have minded a dishwasher. Bathroom a bit on the compact size. If I was there for a week then perhaps the place would start to feel a bit small, but just right for a weekend break.

Positive: Perfect location to be out of the way of the hustle and bustle and a nice walk to the city centre. Beautifully decorated and all suitable amenities. The bed is so comfortable, it was the best night’s sleep I’d had for a long time!

Negative: The lodge was very cold at times, particularly in the morning and last thing at night. The welcome pack details how to “turn up” the heat but the heating was set to eco meaning that it got no warmer than 17 degrees in the morning and 20 at night which felt really cold. The kitchen and dining area in particular were the coldest so we ended up getting into bed early on the first night we were there, due to being cold. I eventually figured out how to turn off the eco mode so we had a warmer evening on our last night thankfully. This should be detailed in the welcome pack. Furthermore, I was very disappointed to open to the over to cook breakfast to find that I needed to wash all of the baking trays before use. They were disgusting and covered in oil, obviously from a previous visit - but this was frustrating. Some other areas were also unclean such as the cutlery drawer. We actually cleaned everything we used before using it as all our cutlery was dirty. Also, there was an awful smell coming from the sink when running the water. It just felt like the place needed a decent cleaner.

Summary: Lovely location and beautiful lodge, unfortunately needs a good clean and allow guests to have the heating as they wish.
