Positive: Akiu is a beautiful mountain town I would highly recommend. The property had great food especially the all you can drink bar and staff were very nice.

Negative: Most staff only speak basic English, which is to be expected but will try and help you the best they can. Also I couldn’t find a thermostat in our room which got a bit warm.

Positive: Loved the experience of a traditional Japanese hotel with hot springs and all inclusive food/drink. Futon beds, mat flooring, screen doors, etc in a massive room all added to the experience. Given kimonos and slippers which could be worn throughout the hotel. Great onsen baths experience. Buffet dinner & breakfast with lots of choice.

Positive: The buffet. A wide spread of food and everything was delicious. Usually buffets are not the case but this one is different. Both dinner and breakfast were excellent. The lounge has a free flow of non alcoholic and alcoholic drinks. Onsens are wide and clean. We spent 20k yen per person which is worth the food and onsen. Anything more and I would recommend another Ryokan.

Negative: The rooms are clearly old. I was shocked that certain features were still existing in the toilet. The balcony is not maintained and dirty. We even saw a dead bat on the balcony. This is the first time where customers are expected to move the luggage by themselves. When a car pulls up to a Ryokan, you will definitely see a staff come up to guide you to parking and take the luggage, well not here. We were told to take a cart to move the luggage. We saw other customers do this as well. I would not recommend the private onsen. It's basically a normal room with an onsen. The public one is definitely better.

Positive: The spacious, clean room. The relaxation areas such as the lounge and the library. We liked the onsen, both the indoor and outdoor ones. The buffet dinner was excellent. It had many options and delicacies, both in western and Japanese. The dining area was spacious, serving staff were excellent. The free drinks and snacks in the lounge and the library for retreat were excellent bonus.

Positive: The onsen were clean and nice, the rooms spacious and comfortable. Really enjoyed the all inclusive aspect with beer on tap & ice cream after the onsen. We booked a shuttle service from Sendai station via the booking.com chat which worked perfectly. Wonderful destination for a little break.

Negative: The onsen water temperature could have been a little hotter for my personal preference. The food selection was less suitable for vegetarians or pescetarians than anticipated.
