Positive: This is a true Fijian village experience. You’re made to feel like family and everyone in the village is so friendly and welcoming. Soso bay was beautiful and the whole experience was amazing. It’s not luxurious but the bed was comfortable and we were never hungry. The massage’s were great and my son loved the spear fishing and snorkelling too.

Negative: I thought the $190 per person transfer was a return trip but it was each way which added $760 to our budget. You have to pay the chief a $10 landing fee and donate a gift of kava root. You need to bring your own water and extra money for activities. Meals are provided at an additional cost. You can bring your own alcohol, if desired. Also bring mozzie repellent.

Summary: A fantastic experience with life long memories made.

Positive: It was an amazing experience to be part of a village and meeting the locals, they are very nice and kind people. The activities were fantastic, we particularly enjoyed the snorkeling followed by a pic-nic on another island. It was also possible to do snorkeling directly from the beach of the village. The meals were delicious, diversified and the quantities were more than enough.

Negative: It was not clear from the booking that the guest house was shared with other people, but it was great to meet other travelers and share this experience (note that the privacy in the guest house is quite limited). We were not aware that it was not possible to plan activities on Sundays (Church and rest day). Overall, it would have been nice if someone could explain to us the meal times and the rules of the village, but it in any case we figured this out by asking around and the people were always available to answer our questions.

Positive: Tai Evi homestay was the highlight of our trip to the Yasawa islands and we wish we could've stayed for longer. It is basic accommodation but perfect for what we needed and we stayed right in the village with Silo's family. The food was delicious. There is lots to do - we saw the manta rays in the manta ray passage which is a boat trip away as well as amazing reef. The beach is also nice with some good coral as well. It was also the 1st year anniversary of the homestay whilst we were there so we had a BBQ with the family and all the guests and we helped with some of the preparation of the food. However, the highlight for us was the company and people that we met here :)

Positive: What a wonderful and memorable stay in a traditional Fijian village. We liked it so much that we ended up staying in Soso village for a month. Silo, Bill, Va, Rob, Simi, Luisa and Iki, we will never forget the great time we had with you. You took good care of us, prepared extra food for the children and helped us when they got sick. As for the village. The people are very friendly, with a lot of children, so our kids made friends instantly. The beach in front of the village is beautiful, with a nice healthy reef to snorkel and there are some nice hikes with spectacular views over all of the Tasawas. As there is no light pollution, stargazing is breathtaking and the manta ray passage is just around the corner. The accommodation is very basic with a bucket shower and no-flush-toilet, but the beds are comfortable and the food is great. Note that the water available is rain water, so if you want to go safe, bring your own bottled water (or aqua-tabs) from the mainland because there are no real shops on the island. Also, you should wear a Sulu (Sarong) around the village and in church, men too. And it’s expected that you bring a kava root (worth 20 FJ$) and/or some money to present to the chief of the village when you arrive.

Positive: Most welcoming and friendly family and very authentic village! Really good food and a lot, they even cooked vegetarian for me! Nice activities, it never gets boring. The beach is beautiful too. Small room but comfy bed with mosquito net. We would have loved to stay longer. Thank you very much Silo, Bill, Va and Rob for making our stay great! Extra info because it’s one of the first reviews: We got picked up from the ferry by boat (extra cost), very good food provided for 50FJD/day per person, bathroom simple with bucket toilet and shower in a little shelter next door, no supermarket in the village so bring what you need (mosquito repellent and sun screen!). Solar panels provide power through the day and lights, but no fan (was not too hot for us). Covering clothes and no hats/sunglasses while walking the village, beach is fine :) Bringing a gift to the chief of the village is also part of etiquette.

Negative: Beware that you need mosquito repellent.
