1 Bedroom Apartment in Bicknell

The Sweetgrass Studio a 1000 sq foot retreat 12 miles from Capitol Reef National Park + 22 NP/SP/Museums within a 3.5 hr drive. It's located above a Coffee House and Gallery. The SG Studio building was built in 1873 as a mercantile, turned dance hall & school in the early 1900s. In 2005 restoration began, honoring the original historical period. All interior walls, floors & doors were constructed by a master woodworker & former owner. Wayne County is where to shorten your bucket list.
The space
The apartment is upstairs. Is is accessed by a staircase inside the front door. Because of its age, the second floor is not handicap accessible.
The space has an open floor plan with kitchen, living and dining in a common area, and a loft.
The ceiling is high and at its perimeter, angles with the pitch of the roof. The window sills are exceptionally deep due to the structure of the old stone buildings’ walls which are almost 18” thick. This all adds up to be a very dramatic and interesting space! The views are both of the town of Bicknell and the gorgeous landscapes.
There is one private bedroom with a queen bed, ample closet and chest of drawers. Extra guests can be accommodated on the queen size sofa bed. There is one large bathroom with plenty of storage, a long cast-iron tub with shower.
There is a generous sized loft above the bathroom. The loft is an interesting nook overlooking the apartment. It has 2 Twin XL mattresses and bedding. It is accessed by a ladder. You can find this in the pictures.
The kitchen is fully equipped with the typical amenities. You could comfortably cook here over any length of stay. The sink is incorporated into an island with bar seating for casual eating. The dining table will seat 6. The island bar will seat 3.
Guest access
Guests have access to the front entry and hall with laundry facility. The entire second floor is the dedicated apartment space. The building has a retail space and a large space in the rear which are private. Also there is a deck on the back of the building facing south that is not for guest use. It is private. Thank you.

Stone Home is 1 block from Bicknell Theater. A really great small theater that provides food along with movies.
Across the street is the Liquor Store for the county. The county does not have a bar.

Summary: For our trip to Capitol Reef National Park, we almost made the mistake of booking a hotel in the area. We were so glad we stumbled across this listing. We loved everything about this place. The place has been meticulously renovated, yet has all the conveniences you want/expect. We had breakfast each day in the coffee shop on the 1st floor. Wonderful people, wonderful apartment, wonderful stay. We would absolutely book here again if in the area.

Summary: What a delightful place to stay! Comfortable, all the conveniences, above a personal garage and coffee shop. I loved the kitchen "bar" with stools and Rod loved the desk. Artwork all around, a drum for a table, large bathroom, comfy bedroom. We will definitely stay there again if up in that area.

Summary: The space was very clean and attractive. It definitely had an artistic feel to it, which was very cool! It was also very close to Capitol Reef National Park, but not so close that you see tourists 24/7. Bekkah was very a very inviting host and made sure we were comfortable. The town, itself, seemed very low-key and relaxing. It wasn’t a tourist trap, which I preferred.

Summary: Historic apartment with quality craftsmanship and artistic charm. We loved being over the coffee shop (great pastries!) and the close proximity to Capital Reef NP and good restaurants. (We ate at the Wild Rabbit and Curry Pizza.) The host was friendly and helpful, and quick to respond to our questions. We would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Summary: Very well thought out upper apartment. Georgeous woodwork. Built-ins are like top quality furniture/art. Very tastefully done. Large dining table. Tons of available counter space with marble near the stove. Warm and comfortable feeling. Very responsive host. There are some sounds from the adjoining workspace.

Summary: We had a relaxing stay at the sweetgrass apt. As you get to the top of the stairway, there’s an eye pleasing surprise of seeing art pieces displayed in every corner of it . The owners put a lot of heart and care with the decorating touches and you get an immediate cozy feeling from it. Hats off to the wood craftsmanship of the fine wood finishes and custom made furniture. It truly is a unique property! Kitchen and bathroom have all the basics needed ( and some more :)) , we cooked most of our simple meals without problems. The property is a pleasant and scenic 18 mile drive to Capitol Reef visitor center ( and beginning of the scenic drive).Our stay was early in the season so most of the open restaurants were in the town of Loa or Torrey , both a very short drive from Bicknell . Small but well supplied supermarket is in Loa. Communication with the owner was excellent, always quick to respond. Check in and out was a breeze! Thanks for letting us stay at your beautiful place!

Summary: This property is a one of a kind. It is in a remodeled stone building with lots of room to move around and is over a coffee shop to top it off. We were there in the off season so places to eat were slim but we found a jewel in the indian pizza shop down the street. Best pizza ever!

Summary: The property was just as the pictures online. It was super cute, roomy and lots of charm. There is a steep well-lit staircase leading up to the studio, so if stairs are an issue, you might want to pass. The kitchen was pretty well stocked, except that I wanted to steam or roast some broccoli, but there wasn't a roasting pan or cookie sheet. There was a steamer insert, but not a pot for it to fit into :( . We met the owners when we arrived and they were super welcoming. They have a very cute coffee shop below, so expect to hear a bit of sound from below early in the am.
