Spacious home, 3400+ square foot, with amazing views of the meadow. Enjoy the morning light sitting at the breakfast nook while looking at the meadow or relax on the couch by the wood stove. Numerous windows throughout the house provide great light and an airy feel. The home is two stories with a game room, 4 full baths, 2 bedrooms, and 2 bunk rooms and a washer/dryer. Lots of space for comfort and privacy! The upstairs has an open floor plan for the kitchen, dining and living area. There are 2 separate dining tables that seat 6-8 each, plus a 6 stool island counter.
The floor plan of 3400+ square feet allows groups or multiple families to sleep comfortably. We have snowshoes, sleds and board games for your enjoyment. Kirkwood is a very dog friendly resort. We allow dogs IF they are potty trained and you take responsibility for your pet.
Kirkwood resort has lots to offer with some of the best skiing in California for beginners to experts due to its high elevation, great snow and varied terrain. The ski lifts are moments away. A free shuttle will take you from our driveway to the lifts and back again. 5K of groomed cross country ski trails are right outside the door in the meadow. 50K of cross country trails can be accessed at the x-country center which is a five minute walk. Other winter activities available are dog sledding, sledding and snow shoeing.
Kirkwood in the summer is an amazing place with lots of wildflowers, hiking and biking. Kirkwood offers lift assisted mountain biking on the slopes. Silver lake, Caples lake and Kirkwood lake are within minutes of our house for hours of swimming, fishing and boating. You can also enjoy horseback riding at Kirkwood stables. South Lake Tahoe is an easy 30 minute drive away.

Summary: We came up to hike, canoe, and enjoy the lake and could not have asked for a better homebase. The house backs up to Kirkwood Meadow, which was beautiful in August with wildflowers and plenty of water in the stream. We were there for five days and only saw a few other people on the meadow, it almost felt like we had the valley to ourselves. In addition to hiking, we also spent time canoeing and fishing at Caples Lake and found some great areas with rocks to jump off towards the top of the lake. Our group included three adults, three teenagers, two tweens and a dog. There was plenty of room for all of us and the numerous bathrooms were appreciated. As others have mentioned, the kitchen is well stocked and setup for cooking. The house is homey, comfortable and well loved - perfect for us. Ashley is a terrific host and is generous with her guests. If you want a luxury setting, you might look elsewhere, but it you want to enjoy nature in a welcoming comfortable setting, this is it. We will absolutely be back!

Summary: I want to say a huge thanks to Ashley for being the best host, so thoughtful and communicative. Her instructions sent to us gave us every piece of information we needed, and she was available to us during our 6 night stay. She was extremely gracious. The home is large, and we had 12 people and all the room we needed. I loved that every room had it's own bathroom and shower or tub. It also had plenty of room for hanging out reading, relaxing, and staring out of the beautiful window onto the meadow. We were there during the summer, and the view is unmatched. This is a comfortable home, could use some minor upgrades, but we had everything that we needed and it was well stocked including the refrigerator and lots of spices!!!! Sometimes you go into a rental and can't even find salt, but not here. The back deck is still being remodeled, but we went out on it anyway every morning and evening, and took in the breathtaking view. I can only imagine how great a place this would be in the winter, totally beautiful and cozy and comfortable for wintertime. Thanks Ashley!!!

Summary: Beautiful location with spectacular 180 degree views from kitchen/ living room. Very well-stocked kitchen making cooking a pleasure. Very spacious- we were a small group but plenty of space for 10-12. Easy shuttle to ski lifts and short walk to meadow for snow shoeing and cross country skiing. We’d happily stay here again. Ashley was very helpful as well.

Summary: Our extended family enjoyed this spacious cabin. The four rooms with bathrooms and extra bunks allow all to have their own space. The main room has great views and is perfect for group meals, games or just hanging out. It has sledding and walks out front and is a shuttle ride from the ski mountain. We recommend the whole package: Kirkwood and this cabin!

Summary: Amazing property right on the meadow. Big warm house with plenty of space for the kids. The shuttle to and from Kirkwood was epic - Each person in our party could ski as long as they wanted to and then head home at their own pace. Plus Tim the shuttle driver is one of a kind. The home is well-appointed - not super fancy but we liked that as it felt homey and comfortable. Garage full of toys - sleds, Nordic skis, snow shoes. So great. But definitely don’t park in front of the garage, as the house rules indicate!! The built-up snow and ice slid off while we were there and you don’t want your car under that.

Summary: The location is great - an on demand shuttle takes you from the end of the driveway right to the lifts. The house was very well supplied - plenty of snow toys and household items. I loved the layout inside the house, great for our two families with little kids. The best part for the kids was having Kirkwood meadow right out the backyard. Amazing and wonderful. Also Ashley is wonderfully responsive by text and a great communicator. There were only two negative things. The cleaning was just so-so - ash bucket was full, lots of dirt under furniture, poorly cleaned dishes, etc. The second thing was the driveway ice. It was a long, steep ice rink. The final few feet into the door had a large block of solid ice straight in front of it. The week was full of near falls as we went in and out. There wasn’t any salt or sand available. The Kirkwood property folks said they weren’t allowed to salt the drive, the little general store didn’t have any, and the nearest town with some was an hour away. Overall the house is fantastic. It was one of the best we have enjoyed over the years of renting houses for winter breaks.

Summary: We had a wonderful time in this spacious house. We were there for 5 nights over Christmas. Comfortable, cosy family house. Sure, some things are older but it has everything you need. Brilliantly equipped for cooking for large groups. Enough space for the children to be in a separate area from the adults. Huge bunk room for the kids with space to play. Easy access to ski bases via on call shuttle. We loved it.
