Positive: Everything was wonderful except for the disappointing excuse of a breakfast. The coffee was OK, but the day old pastries resembled vittles for the hogs, not a thoughtful continental breakfast. I left at 7am the 2nd morning to avoid that 8am matutinal insult.

Negative: Again, my room, the restaurant, the woods, the wild gardens, and the staff were absolutely delightful. The disturbing mirage of a light breakfast left a bitter, lasting taste.

Summary: A delightful 4 star inn with a 1 star breakfast.

Positive: The view was absolutely breathtaking! Our room faced an open expanse, looking out towards the mountains with the fall foliage in full color! The grounds were worth exploring. We lucked out on a special rate through Booking.com--it was tremendous value!

Negative: There is a restaurant on the premises but was open Wednesdays through Sundays only. The closest off-site eateries were at least 20 minutes away. Being in the mountains, access road can be a bit precarious during winter or stormy weather.

Positive: Beautiful location, a little off the beaten path so during busy fall season it was perfectly peaceful. Room was cozy and clean. Nice bathroom and amenities.

Negative: The Inn has a fully functional restaurant open to the public and guests at night however breakfast was croissants and muffins. While the quality of both were good, the property is not close to alternatives for a heartier breakfast and having that available would have pushed my rating to an easy 10.

Positive: Max's restaurant is excellent. Exceeded our expectations.

Negative: The room and bed were comfortable. The whole place was quiet, despite having many guests. Our room had low ceiling and the bathroom could have been a little bigger. But everything worked just fine.

Summary: We would definitely return. It might be nice to stay in the main house.

Positive: Very atmospheric, it had the feel of an alpine lodge from days gone by. Very peaceful, quiet and soothing.

Negative: The breakfast of muffins, pastries and mini croissants with coffee and fruit was not really for me as I am a cereal , toast eggs guy ! So I guess it’s a subjective thing.

Summary: Absolutely wonderful. Staff and property both excellent.
