Summary: We had the most wonderful stay of two weeks. Catina and Jack are wonderful hosts and immediately there to help at any time of the day or night. If you are looking for an absolutely remote location in the nature this is a great place. Especially in August when it is much cooler in the hills than in the villages. Thank you Catina!

Summary: This was exactly what we had hoped it would be. Away from the chaos of the tourist areas, in beautiful countryside, an interesting building to stay in, and a fantastic host. Catina is warm and friendly and she and her partner Giacomo are the perfect hosts. Their wine and cake on arrival and homemade tiramisu later in the week were 👌🏻! They made us feel very welcome and were very accommodating to our young baby. We would love to come back!

Summary: My husband and I stayed with Catina for a week earlier this month. Catina is a very personable and hospitable. We love her and hope to remain in contact. The cottage that we stayed in was very charming and spotless. The scenery on the drive up to the cottage was outstanding and we got to see some deer on the property. We would definitely stay with Catina again!!

Summary: We had a wonderful family holiday in this exceptional accommodation. Catina is a great host and had a warm welcome for us with delicious wine and cake. Castellare is a peaceful paradise up in the hills not far away from Florence, with beautiful nature, carefully and individual decorated appartments and a fantastic pool. Summary: Catena and her husband have an incredible property with the charm of a medieval setting and the convenience of being close to a train station to get into Florence without difficulty. Any question or concerns are dealt with quickly and efficiently.You do need access to a car to get to the property. Catena is warm and engaging, and she and her husband live on the property. For my husband and I, it was an ideal honeymoon situation.....

Summary: From the moment we arrived at Castellare owner Catina couldn't have been more friendly and welcoming. On arrival we were greeted with a welcome cake she had baked for us and a bottle of a local red wine. We stayed in the beautiful little cottage Capanna which is just perfect for a couple. It has a lovely kitchen with everything you need, beautifully decorated lounge, bedroom and bathroom. Castellare is so quiet and peaceful, the swimming pool is in its own secluded part of the grounds, easy to relax your day away. The closest supermarket is about a 10 minute drive, but for a much bigger supermarket drive a little further to Pontassieve. It is also perfect as a base to visit the many local cities of Florence, Siena, Pisa and Bologna. We were lucky enough to meet three lovely families in the other properties that make up Castellare, they have all visited on previous occasions. We had such a fantastic time we will certainly return in the near future. All in all Castellare is just an amazing place to stay..

Summary: or at least it was until we arrived with our 1 year old. Apologies to the other guests staying if they could hear us, luckily we were staying in Capanna, which is set apart from the main farmhouse. Dont let the photos of Capanna fool you. She is small, but perfectly formed & the high ceilings make it feel much bigger. It has everything you need, including a washing machine. I love the decoration detail, especially the ceiling branch light! Catina had set up a travel cot for our daughter in the bedroom, which had plenty of space. Anyone staying with a toddler should note that there is a step down from living room to bedroom/bathroom which is fairly big but once we'd taught the little one to sit down to get down it she was fine but if your toddler has only just learnt to walk or still crawling then you might want to take a travel gate (we had one but didnt feel the need to use it in the end). I think the property description says the shower is over a bath but it is just a shower cubicle, this didnt matter to us as the sink in the bathroom is huge & we used that to bath our daughter. We arrived pretty late at night but Catina had waited up to make sure we got there safely & had very kindly got a few essentials from the shop for us (milk & bread, etc.). Plus she had made a delicious lemon & ricotta cake which didnt last long haha (Catina, yes please can I have the recipe?) You do absolutely need a car (I would recommend people read a little about driving in Italy before going). If you are hiring one then try to get one that is more than 1.2 engine, ours really struggled up the Tuscan hills. We got the train from Sieci into Florence a couple of times which was very quick & easy. We managed to park in the main station car park both times, which is free. I can definitely recommend the wine shop in Molino del piano (Chianti on tap for €3.50 a bottle!), we took a few bottles home with us. We also visited Castello del Trebbio which was very nice. Overall I would recommend Castellare for anyone wanting a quiet, secluded holiday that has easy access to all the beauty & culture of Florence plus yummy cheap wine!

Summary: We spent the most wonderful week at Catina's lovely home. The farmhouses are beautifully decorated, with little extras like cookbooks, and novels to make you feel at home. When we arrived, we were welcomed with a bunch of roses, bottle of wine and biscotti, which is typical of Catina's generosity. Although the farmhouses were remote (you'll DEFINITELY need a car) Sieci train station is just 10 minute drive away, and the train into central Florence only takes 10 minutes. Though we only managed to tear ourselves away from the tranquility of Castellere to make 2 trips into Florence! There was a GREAT deli called Bottega in the nearby town of Rosano. By far one of the highlights though was the vineyard tour at Castle Trebbio, and the five course (30 euro!) taster menu at the restaurant there. As you can tell - there's PLENTY to keep you busy. I would recommend this to people looking for some peace and beauty in the Tuscan hills - it was a holiday I'll never forget. Thanks Catina! x
