Positive: The property is very clean and spacious, the owner was very kind to wait for us and show us around. The Shingu train station is about 7mins walk and very easy to go to Kumono Hatayama Taisa (around 14mins walk).

Positive: A charming, Japanese style cottage with a fully equipped kitchen and bathroom. The tatami mat rooms and decorated screens dividing each room were beautiful. The courtyard garden was a pleasure to look at from the comfortable “veranda” chair. Close to the station and very close to the bus stop, the cottage is well-situated.

Negative: The futon beds were too thin and uncomfortable for us. On arrival, when we asked our host for extra padding, she reluctantly gave us another thin mattress for underneath that seemed barely deeper than a dish sponge. Given her obvious reluctance, we didn’t ask for more, then had the torture of an uncomfortable night, knowing there were multiple futon mattresses in the cupboard only feet away. We would recommend this accommodation for Shingu, but only if you are comfortable sleeping on a very hard surface or willing to insist on extra layers beneath the futon. In retrospect, we wish we had.
