Positive: Decent cafe in the lobby. Many good restaurant options nearby. Good grocery market immediately next door. Short walk from campus and downtown Berkeley activities. Clean.

Negative: Outdoor patio was a bit unkempt, leaves and dirt from outdoors present.

Summary: Generally good hotel, quiet and well-located.

Positive: The room was beautiful with windows that opened both to the east and west so we got sunset colors. The bathroom was roomy with a window that opened to the outside. There was a nice desk, little refrigerator and microwave as well as dishes etc. The location is excellent; next to a grocery store, the Cheese Board and Pizza store, across the street from world famous Chez Panisse, and other restaurants. What more could you want!

Negative: The "lobby" is also a bistro with a regular parade of Berkeley regulars who sell their books, know each other and chat over coffee about their lives and things they have seen. The bistro food and coffee is good, and service excellent. It is just a bit cramped, but one can also sit outside which is great fun watching the street life.

Summary: It was a European style experience in an academic/intellectual city in the heart of Gourmet Ghetto.

Positive: The room is quiet, clean and well appointed. The staff is responsive. The location on Shattuck is perfect.

Negative: There is not a hotel lobby and street parking only.

Positive: The location was surprising and different. It felt cozy and private. The staff were very helpful and friendly. I liked the location, just on the edge of downtown, so it felt less hectic and had great restaurants. The clientele in the Bistro were colorful and interesting. An older gentleman softly played jazz guitar and regale his friends with stories about the history of music in the area from jazz to bluegrass, naming all the people he knew. He said he came in every am, so obviously feels comfortable there. I grew up in Berkeley and was visiting. I'm also a musician and familiar with the history of the people he knew. I really enjoyed staying at the hotel and getting that cool Berkeley feeling again.

Positive: The room was very modern and it had a great lay out of all the amenities. The shower was a nice walk in style with big glass door. It is right by a nice grocery store and this really good pizza/bakery. Very popular spot with very tasty pizza and bakery items. They had a live band playing the night we were there and was a great atmosphere.

Summary: Great location for a weekend in Berkeley. Within steps from great restaurants and BART.
