Skaneateles House | Secluded house on Skaneateles Lake with long lakefront

4 Bedroom House in Skaneateles

The house is perched on a bluff with open views of Skaneateles Lake, with 300 feet of lakefront below. Located on a little-developed stretch of the eastern shore, you approach from deep woods of oak and sycamore, revealing the lake as you near the house.
The beautiful modern design is finished in redwood, both on the exterior and much of the interior. The house has two wings separated by outdoor decks. One wing is one story with living area, dining area, kitchen, bath and two bedrooms (traditionally the "kids' side"). The other wing has two stories with a bedroom on each floor and a half bath on the second floor (traditionally the "grown-ups' side").
The outdoor decks are delightful places to dine or relax with a full view of the lake. A huge oak grows through the lower deck, giving shade.
The water in Skaneateles Lake is crystal clear and clean. The waterfront has a dock with a wide area for sitting. Guests may use two kayaks and a canoe, with life jackets and paddles provided. There's also a floating splash mat- huge fun for kids! Guests may bring their own boats and use a mooring provided near the dock.
The house has no air conditioning. There is a fireplace and 3 space heaters for heating. Thanks to its location, air conditioning isn’t needed. There are fans in every room for warm nights. From Memorial Day through Labor Day, heat isn’t needed either. Earlier in May and after the third week of September the fireplace and space heaters work well, along with nice blankets we provide.
NOTE: Due to multiple changes in level and steps to the lake, this property is NOT SUITABLE for those with mobility challenges.
PRICE REDUCTION: The price that appears on this website reflects a discount of $100 per night from the initial price.

Summary: Great place, very responsive owner. More than a cabin, not quite a house. Definitely on the rustic side. Fairly isolated. Private dock, no beach. Water was clean and clear. Town is amazing.

Summary: Our group had a great time at this home! House/cabin and a huge deck that sits on a cliff right on the lake with a short walk down to the kayak shed and dock. Plenty of room for everyone, especially the great room & dining areas that were able to comfortably sit 8 adults. Kitchen is very well stocked and has everything you might need for a week.Things to know:This house is deep in the woods so you will be sharing space with spiders and ants as expected. The drive in and out is an adventure - basically a one lane driveway that is very steep in places shared with a couple other houses. You don't 'need' 4wd but go slowly. The walk to the dock requires you to pay some attention. Its maybe 15 'steps' built into the hillside. Perfectly safe, lighted and easy enough to navigate but probably not good for anyone with mobility issues or small childrenHouse has plenty of deck chairs but we were very happy we brought our own. Especially if you don't want to have to carry them back up from the dock every night.Complaints:The shower. Hmm, they are drawing water directly from the lake so water pressure is pretty much non-existent but its made even worse by their choice of shower head. It's terrible and if I rented this property again I would bring a real low-flow showerhead with a hose and swap them We were not given the lockbox code at check-in and had to text the property manager, she called within 10mins and provided which got us access to the shed key.

Summary: This place was great. Not precious or fancy, just had everything you need for a fun stay on the water with family and friends. Well-stocked kitchen, spacious and homey. Great communication with owner who was also very accommodating. Loved it!

Summary: Do you love the mountains and waterfront all at the same time? Then this place is for you. You are situated in the woods, with lovely views of the lake. Lake acess is a short walk down a path to the dock. We had some of the best nights sleep with the windows open, breeze througg tge trees and the aound of tge lake

Summary: We had a lovely long weekend here! The highlights are definitely the outdoor deck for morning coffee, meals and evening chats; and of course the gorgeous lake itself! The dock is just a short walk down from the house, and we had a great time on the kayaks and floating mat.

Summary: Private, beautiful wooded location with view of the lake. Great dock, perfect for lounging, boating, fishing and swimming. Convenient kitchen.

Summary: This is a great waterfront cottage for a larger group that includes kids or teenagers. We had daily swims, played games and relaxed with a book on the porch. On the weekend there is lots of activity on the water (boats and jet skis) but it was very quiet at night and on weekdays. The nearest town is about 20 minutes drive. We loved it!

Summary: My husband, friends, and I had a special two weeks at the house located in the most serene area of Skaneateles Lake. We had no reason to leave the property given the private location, beautiful views from the outdoor deck and lake dock, and kayaking up and down the shore. This is a memorable place for friends and families to gather, share meals, and enjoy the outdoors. We all plan to return next year.
James A. Aug 23, 2023 04:33:16 AM
Summary: My wife and I and 2 daughters and 1 son, their 3 spouses and 3 grandkids, age 3, 6 and 7 all made the trip. We spent the week swimming, kayaking, fishing and cruising in the rowboat. My son-in-law brought an electric motor. We had a great time. We mostly ate at the cottage. The kitchen handled everything we cooked. The housing worked out really well. My son and daughter with kids stayed in the north buiding while grandparents and my daughter and her husband stayed in the south building. We really enjoyed it. The descent to the lake and climb back to the house were more rugged that we would want. We would have preferred an easier access to the water. Overall, we really enjoyed it. However, if we come again, we would look for a place with easier access to the water.

Summary: Amazing cabin in the woods with quiet lake front. Very private and secluded.
