Watch the river run by as you relax on the dock in the woods, or even on the 5 person inflatable island that floats on the river. (You will get wet!) Cut a boquet from the wildflower meadow to liven up the dining room table (in season). After an afternoon at the beach and shopping, unwind in the hot tub or around the campfire.

Q: Do you have central air conditioning?
A: Yes. We have central air, and we also have a window air conditioning unit in the upstairs bedroom since it tends to be a few degrees warmer upstairs.
Q: What kind of coffee maker do you have?
A: We have a drip coffee maker as well as a Keurig K-Iced machine that brews single cups of hot or iced coffee. In addition, we supply a French press and pour over coffee maker. We also supply a selection on Kcups, ground coffee, filters, creamer, sugar, and sweetener.
Q: Are there leeches in the river?
A: We have never seen any.
Q: Is smoking allowed?
A: Smoking is not allowed in or near the house. If you wish to smoke, please do so away from the house and deck. Also, clean up any evidence of smoking (ash, cigarette butts).
Q: What are the sleeping arrangements?
A: The upstairs king room has a traditional king size coil spring mattress. The main floor king bedroom has a king size memory foam mattress. The bunk room has four twin beds; one innerspring, one gel infused memory foam, one hybrid memory foam and innerspring, and one traditional coil spring.
Q: Do we need to bring sheets, pillows, towels, and comforters?
A: Each king bed is supplied with a fitted sheet and top sheet, one lightweight quilt, 4 pillows, and a soft fleece blanket (Fleece blanket can be found in closet). Each twin bed is supplied with a fitted sheet and top sheet, one comforter, and 2 pillows. Each bathroom is supplied with bath mats, bath and hand towels, and washcloths. We also supply one beach towel per person.
Q: Can I get early check in or late check out?
A: We are happy to accommodate this request when we can! If other guests aren’t checking in/out on the same day, we can likely work something out. (It typically takes our cleaning crew the entire window between same day check out/ check in to have the house clean and ready for our guests).

Summary: Everything about this place is top notch and amazing! My girlfriend’s and I have traveled all over for years and this place was the absolute best. Every detail has been thought of including a raft up and running on the water, the hot tub on and heating up upon arrival, complimentary snacks from the area and name placards for each and every beautiful tree, shrub or flower on the grounds. There’s something for everyone here. I can’t recommend this place enough.

Summary: Great place for a family wanting to have a peaceful and fun vacation. My grandchildren had a wonderful time ages 5-14. I would recommend this to any family. Wish there was a television and comfortable chair in the living room for someone who is not able to use the steps to go downstairs.

Summary: This property was absolutely perfect for my girls trip. The pictures did not do the landscaping justice- we could’ve sat out there for days. The property manager reached out in case we had any issues and made sure we knew where everything was. I will definitely look into staying here again if I come back to the area with a group! Plenty of space and amenities.

Summary: The pictures do not do this property justice. It’s absolutely gorgeous, inside and out. The attention to detail and communication from the property manager was appreciated. We were easily able to drive into South Haven and it’s also not too far from Saugatuck. Local grocery store is just 5 minutes away. Highly recommend this property!

Summary: Pictures cannot capture the beautiful space we enjoyed at the Black River Retreat. There is something for everyone! Make sure to make time to spend in the yard - we spent our days exploring the town and evenings at the lovely fire pit with the fireflies and in the hot tub. They thought of nearly everything! We plan to come back!

Summary: We went here for a quick weekend getaway and it was amazing. Far to much to enjoy in just a few days. The place is perfectly located between Bangor and South Haven, about 10 minutes from each. It is set back in the woods so you have great privacy and wonderful nature encounters (deer and a cardinal that said good morning to us every day at the window). The kids had a wonderful time. They played on the equipment, went for walks in the woods, they even played in the basement with the wonderful toys provided. It was a fantastic stay! The Good: • Wonderful location • Plenty to do. Hot tub, play equipment, nature walks • Wildlife is everywhere • Peaceful • Great host and wonderful communication The Bad • Um.. nothing. Maybe the stairs down to the river could have reflective tape to make the edges easier to see going down The Ugly • Nothing, I had to stretch to get a bad poing. I know I can't come up with an ugly one.

Summary: We absolutely loved our stay! The home was clean and beautiful. There were great board games, wonderful books, and a really fun space for little ones. The property manager was efficient, friendly, and incredibly helpful. AND THE GROUNDS!!! The lawn was pristine, the landscaping was gorgeous (and labeled), and the outdoor patio felt like a beautiful extention of the indoor space. The trails on property were these perfect little 1/2 mile loops that all my kids (2-17yrs) enjoyed. We saw deer, wild turkeys, tons of birds, and rabbits. There were even fun play structures outside where my teenagers challenged each other to physical contests. We enjoyed s'mores and fires every night while watching the fireflies. Cannot say enough good things about this property!
