The property itself is peaceful, beautifully kept, and the perfect place to rest after exploring the magic of Volcanoes National Park. What truly made my experience unforgettable, however, was Christine. Her kindness, warmth, and genuine nurturing spirit touched me deeply. She consistently went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect — always attentive, always thoughtful, and always with a smile that made me feel right at home. It’s rare to find someone who blends professionalism with such heartfelt care, but Christine does exactly that. Thanks to her and the team at Sambora, my time in Kinigi felt special, safe, and filled with comfort. I left with a grateful heart and wonderful memories. Positive: We had an amazing stay at Sambora. The facilities are lovely and very close to the gorilla tours. The food was also excellent. For those booking tours through Sambora, I’d encourage you to understand all charges ahead of time as costs are hidden / not fully disclosed for certain activities that are automatically included in your itinerary.

Positive: Sambora is a hidden gem! The rooms are thoughtfully and tastefully put together with every creature comfort you would want! The bathrooms are huge and modern! We loved all the touches from the slippers, to the personalised cards, the crackling fires in the rooms and the food was a real show stopper! Every meal was delicious and exciting! The team are so friendly ( big shout out to Khai!) and are hands on and couldn’t do enough to make us feel at home!

Positive: Sambora Kinigi is a gem. We were welcomed to the Sambora Lodge by an unbelievably warm and helpful staff who attended to our every need. Our cottage was perfect, with a roaring fire to welcome us after a delicious meal prepared by a talented chef who uses local, fresh ingredients to make wholesome gourmet meals accompanied by a selection of fine wines. The planned activities from which to choose are world class – top of the list is Gorilla trekking, which was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. We had the opportunity to canoe on pristine lakes, visit community groups working with artisans and really experience life in Rwanda’s northern region. The Diane Fossey Campus is literally right around the corner and well worth the visit. We were made to feel at home in this top-notch facility, with our every need catered to – massages in room, fresh local flowers from the luscious gardens, and the best turn-down service ever. But truly the Sambora family made the stay extra special for us.

Positive: We had a truly amazing stay here. The rooms are spacious, the staff is absolutely wonderful and the food...wow! The entire meal time is an experience by itself. I also loved the idea of sharing the table with the other guests, which gave us an opportunity to meet new people and hear new stories. It felt like home away from home.

Positive: Beautiful, cozy place near Volcanoes National Park. The food was delicious- we enjoyed every meal, and all the extra touches were great. Fantastic included 30 min massage, awesome welcome dance by local dance company, a lit fireplace and hot water heating pad in our room each night, gaiters to use and clean shoes after gorilla trek, and even small gifts for us all made for a really memorable stay! But really the best part of the place was the staff- they are amazing!

Negative: The plugs in the cottage were confusing. The plus were not the typical plugs used in Rwanda (I believe they were the UK ones so we couldn’t use most of them as our adapter didn’t fit)
