Positive: Samara is literally on the sands of the most incredible beach, overlooking Bazaruto and Benguera Islands. Sunrises are something special to behold from there. There are several food options nearby (are at Casbah next door like 6 times), a well stocked grocery store and ATM within walking distance. The staff were all really friendly and helpful as well. Our room was cleaned on a daily basis, so along with the rest of the resort, was generally spotless and well maintained. Lots of activities nearby too (kite surfing, SUP, snorkel trips, quad biking etc.) so there is no reason to be bored during your stay. The meals we had were good too. Nice seafood and a filling breakfast each day. The place wasn't at full capacity so we were given our choice of two rooms upon arrival (which was lovely after being collected from the airport with the included shuttle service). The room we chose was the closest one to the reception, beach and restaurant, so it was really convenient.

Negative: The proximity to the beach is both a blessing and a curse. The property is right next to a road, opposite a campsite. The room we selected (out of the two offered) had zero sound insulation, so it's possible to hear people talking, singing, revving bikes or shouting 24 hours a day, as though they are in your room. Not a criticism, as we chose that room but something I was not expecting. It's not great to come straight out of your room and have the curio and food sellers on the beach constantly badger you to purchase things. Samara has security but they don't seem to be fussed about this at all. It can be a bit off-putting to guests who have come to relax on holiday- though it is completely understandable given the context of Mozambique's economy and recent challenges. Also, the smell of thatch is constant and pungent. Not everyone's cup of tea. Finally - make sure you are very comfortable with the person you are staying with, because the room we stayed in had an ensuite bathroom, without a roof or a door. So it's basically in the bedroom with you. We did have easy access to the outside bathroom which is used for the restaurant as well but again, something that isn't exactly clear on the booking.com page or website.

Positive: Location was great - right on the beach, but note it is beside a busy entry road to the beach. Loud music and large groups every afternoon/evening.

Negative: Small and basic lodge, especially compared to all the local lodges around it. BUT this place grew on us and we enjoyd our time here. Being right on the beach enabled us to interact with locals in a way we wouldnt have at other lodges. Note the "pool" is only 2m by 3m. Owner wasnt particularly friendly...

Positive: Amazing food. Inclusive breakfast was very generous. Evening meal not included but great value for money and very tasty! Beautiful room which was comfy and clean. Will definitely stay again.

Negative: There was nothing I didn’t like about the stay. There was an issue with Mastercard, so payment was difficult. Would have been helpful to know this prior to my stay.

Summary: Absolutely beautiful accommodation, friendly staff and a fantastic stay as a result.
