At La Grande Ferme La Bataille, you will find Les Lavandes, our charming gite dating back to 1819 that has been sympathetically restored to expose the beauty and charm of original oak beams, wood flooring and limestone walls.
This rustic French gite oozes warmth and character helping you feel relaxed and at home as soon as you arrive.
Downstairs is an open plan living room with logburner and kitchen/diner with washing machine/microwave, coffee pod machine (Tassimo) and free French/English TV.
Bed linens, towels/pool towels are all provided free of charge.
Upstairs, there are 2 bedrooms, one double with views over the courtyard and a second with 2 single beds and views over the countryside. The family bathroom has a shower.
Please note - for bookings during the colder months, the first load of logs for the log burner are provided on your arrival. Further supply of logs can be purchased on site if required. There will also be an additional charge prior to your stay if you wish to make use of the electric radiators whilst staying in the gite.
Set in 2 acres of land, you have an abundance of beautiful trees and vast open space around you, surrounded by fields and woods, offering peace, tranquillity, and walks amongst nature. Or enjoy a range of outdoor activities for all ages.
Spend lazy summer days by the heated saltwater pool with open views across the countryside, soothed by the sound of rippling water and bird song. The pool may be shared with other guests.
Please note - the pool will be open during mid April to mid September, weather/temperature permitting.
The gite has a private enclosed garden to the rear with sitting/dining area, perfect for your morning coffee as you ease yourself into your day. Enjoy the use of your own stone-built BBQ, cooking and dining with family or friends. At night, sit back and enjoy a glass of wine, your garden twinkling with fairy lights, as you watch the glorious sunsets with bats and owls flying overhead.
The gite is in the small and peaceful village of La Bataille, 4km from Chef Boutonne, a market town steeped in history and recently awarded 'Petit Cite de Caractere'.
You can enjoy restaurants, bars, boulangeries, pâtisseries, a cinema, markets, and regular festivals throughout the summer months.
A visit to Chateau De Javarzay in the centre of the town is a must, with beautiful walks through the grounds, around the fishing lake and riverside strolls along the river Boutonne.
You will find an abundance of other pretty French towns to explore within a short drive of Chef Boutonne, all with their own character, shops, bars, restaurants, and weekly markets.
Centrally located for exploring the wider area, the beautiful coastal city of La Rochelle is just over an hour away, Niort 45 minutes away and the cities of Poitiers, Angouleme and Limoges are all approximately an hours drive.
We do live within the grounds of the property, but whether you are here as friends, a couple, or a family, your privacy during your holiday is of utmost importance to us.

Summary: A lovely Gîte with everything you need for a relaxing stay. The walled pool area and pool are beautiful with plenty of loungers, the pool is heated to a very pleasant 28deg and there are various pool toys and floats for guests to use.The surrounding gardens are also lovely with swings, a badminton net and more to keep the restless ones busy. The nearest town is only 10 minutes away by car so it’s really convenient for the supermarket and boulangeries etc. The owner was lovely and her communication prior to our arrival was excellent. All in all a lovely place to stay

Summary: Probably one of the best kitted out Gites we have stayed in. Very well designed and comfortable accommodation, super clean, modern open plan kitchen, sitting area and bathroom, with all utilities provided. The bedrooms were cool, very comfortable, good quality bedding and really pretty, keeping the traditional design features of the gite. We had an impressive, private outside space, spotless pool and sunsets that were just fabulous. The hosts were very kind and discreet and wanted you to feel at home, however always on hand when you needed them. I would not hesitate to stay here again, it was a super holiday and have fabulous memories of our time there… so many thanks to our lovely hosts Dianne and Mark

Summary: We loved our stay at the grande ferme. The gites are private but have the use of the communal spaces. Having a salt water swimming pool makes all the difference when the children are in it all week. Plenty to see and do locally and the shops in Chef Boutonne have all you need. Hosts perfect combination of available whilst giving you space. Would recommend.

Summary: What a fab gite! Dianne the host was so welcoming and friendly. The gite was beautifully maintained and clean and had everything you needed. The photos really don't do the gite, grounds or pool justice. Would highly recommend it and we will definitely be back to visit.

Summary: This is a newly-converted rural farm in the middle of the hamlet of La Bataille. Everything had been done to a really high standard and we had everything we needed for the relaxing holiday we craved. The pool was immaculate as it was cleaned every morning and as it is walled on 2 sides, we could always find shade if we needed it. We barbecued most nights with fabulous food from local markets (the local Intermarche is also very good) and the Gite is within reach of plenty of local towns for days out. Dianne was the perfect host: communication was swift and helpful, but otherwise, we were left in perfect peace. Thank you!
