Positive: Mychael the host was more than helpful, and the little extras were a lovely touch. The cottage is quirky and comfortable with sky tv. Which was a bonus! The outdoor space is absolutely stunning! The weather let us down so couldn't nake the most of the outdoor space.but we didn't let that spoil our stay. The pub is just up the road, so nice and handy. We had a lovely relaxed stay and will aim to go back in the nicer weather.

Negative: There was nothing that we didn't like, the cottage is like a home from home.

Positive: We had such a wonderful stay and honestly couldn’t have asked for better hosts. From the moment we arrived, they were incredibly welcoming and went above and beyond to make our trip special. They were so accommodating with our little cat — even providing a litter tray and treats, which was such a thoughtful touch. They also surprised my husband with a bottle of prosecco for his birthday, which was just so kind and really made the trip feel extra special. The property itself was cosy, comfortable, and had absolutely everything you could need (and more!). It’s clear a lot of care and thought has gone into every detail. One of our favourite parts was the river right next door — so peaceful and the perfect spot to sit and unwind with a drink in the evening. We truly felt looked after the entire time and would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a relaxing and memorable stay 💚

Positive: Lovely quirky property next to the river, attached to owner’s house, but very private, with your own outside space overlooking the river. Pub 2 mins walk away which had lovely food and station 5 mins away making it an excellent base for discovering Northumberland and North Cumbria either by car or local transport. Lovely treats left by the owners on arrival for both us and the dog which we all thoroughly enjoyed and some treats for our journey home. Would definitely recommend.

Positive: Not only the location is just stunning, with the river easy to admire from the private terrace, but the inside of the cottage is decorated in an incredibly comfy way, with every little thing you would possibly need accounted for. Also, the hosts were extremely responsive to anything we needed. We didn't have a car but the place is easy enough to get to via train, and the facilities in Bardon Mill (pub, cafe and a little shop) are just enough to not need a car to get to the neighbouring villages. There is also lots to do within walking distance - hikes, Hadrian's walk and the Roman ruins, with a little handy guide left for us in the cottage. We also went stargazing which was great! Would recommend this place to absolutely anyone.

Positive: This accommodation, the River Cottage, was a haven of peace, comfort, a sanctuary and a home away from home. It was a compact but beautifully set up, tucked next to a little river, trees and wildlife outside, and cosy, practical and pleasant inside space. It had everything I needed for cooking and relaxing. Although the beautiful and unique physical space itself was a comfort and a treat to experience, the way the hosts were so present with their genuine care, responsiveness and attention to individual detail added to the feeling of being sincerely welcomed. Yet, the space was completely private and felt like 'my own'. The location was perfect for exploring Hadrian's Wall and beyond - even at walking distance. This was an added bonus. A super village centre and shop with café, was very appealing. Train station was a two minute walk away. I would highly recommend staying at the Old Post Office River Cottage. It will likely stay with you as a treasured memory, if you do.
