Positive: The view was amazing. The room is big and the bed is comfortable and clean. The surrounding was very calm. The host wasn't there when I arrived but we managed and the young girl of the family was super accomodating with the check out.

Negative: The shower head was broken and the bath wasn't super clean, although I am sure I was just not very lucky because the room was super clean. Host doesn't know english.

Summary: Great view and location. Big room and comfortable bed.

Positive: Perfect starting point for hikes, nice breakfast and good communication (French) with the lady working there. The view from the balcony was spectacular in the morning!

Negative: We got a room without a window. Hot and humid. There was a small ‘hole’ in the wall towards the ‘living room’. But it was open so the room did not feel private.

Positive: Great surprise on our trip in Santiago, feels like a complete different country only 30minutes away from Praia. Breathtaking views over the mountains, extremely quiet just able to listen to the birds. Would recommend to any families or group of friends who look for a nature retreat.

Positive: We really liked the peace and quiet and simplicity at Recanto da Montanha. If you are looking for a local experience( rather than a big set up) then this is a good place to start. Our host Geisa was really sweet and helpful. Plenty of hot water and internet worked well

Negative: It's not easy to stock up once at Rui Vaz, and not much in terms of restaurants except a fairly pricey one further up the hill. There is a little shop run by Rosalinda for very basic stuff. For the rest you'll need to go to São domingos Could do with a little maintenance work.

Positive: The location is great, surrounded by nature in a pretty mountain setting. The bedrooms were very clean. The hammock at the upper floor. The female caretaker was very friendly and prepared breakfast for an additional fee. Good shower.

Negative: It was difficult to locate and needs better instructions on how to find it. LOTS of spiders around. We found 2 BIG spiders in our bedrooms.

Summary: Clean rooms in a great mountain setting.
