Positive: This youth hostel has a lovely cosy and clean sitting room with gorgeous loch and mountain views from the windows. From our family bedroom we could hear the stream down below. There is a beautiful private garden on the loch edge which has some flowers, bird feeders and a picnic table. It is not impossible to do day trips to the Isle of Skye from this distance. However, there is plenty to do nearer to the youth hostel. You can just wander out for a short stroll along the lane straight from the hostel, or you could climb up any number of mountains on your doorstep, or take a drive over the ratagan pass to the glenelg ferry where I think there is a nice cafe or where you can hop on the turntable ferry for a fun sail. Its all a beautiful area!

Positive: Great location, friendly helpful staff. Quiet. Great little reception shop selling essentials. Comfortable beds, each with its own lamp and sockets. Nice dining room.

Negative: The wifi only works in the lounge. nowhere else. Only one female shower and toilet and sink for the entire first floor and this shower has no changing area, its just a cubicle and you have to keep your clothes/towel outside if you want them to stay dry, except there's no room to get changed outside because then you're blocking anyone wanting to use the sink. There are two unisex showers on the ground floor (which are better laid out and easier to use), but it's a bit weird because you have to walk through the lounge area to get to them. The bathroom situation seemed ok on one day, but on others there was a queue for the shower depending on how you happened to time it, and frequently a queue for a sink. The sink in the first floor toilet does not have drinking water, so you can't brush your teeth there, adding to the queue for the dorm sink. I would stress that all these "negatives" were only minor points for me and over all I had a great stay and would go there again.

Positive: The location was great but the area was full of midges (not the hostels fault I know). You need smidge cream for this location if you want to enjoy the outside.
